I HAVE BOUGHT A 96 GMC SUBURBAN 4X4 WITH 67,000 MILES FROM B&G AUTO SALES IN COLTON CA.WHEN I DROVE IT HOME AND GOT OFF THE FRWY THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED HARD BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR.

I CALLED THE DEALER AND IT WAS SENT OUT FOR TRANS SERVICE.THE TRANS SHOP COULD FIND ANYTHING WRONG,SO I WAS ON MY WAY TO LAS VEGAS AND THE TRANS. BOILD OVER CATCHING THE ENGINE ON FIRE, THE TRANS WAS DESTOYED AND WENT BACK TO THE TRANS SHOP FOR A COMPLETE OVERHAUL.

A WEEK LATER I PICKED IT UP AND DROVE IT APPROX. 15 MILES,WITHOUT WARNING THE TRANS WAS SHIFTING HARD AGAIN AND FIVE MINUTES LATER THE TRANS HAD BOILD OVER AND WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR SAME AS BEFORE. IT SEEMS THAT GMC HAS A DEFECT WITH THIS TRANSMISSION,THE TRANSMISSION TECH DOESNT KNOW WHATS CAUSING THIS PROBLEM, CAN ANYONE HELP?

transmission problem may be an electrical

AUTHOR: Roy - Janesville (U.S.A.)

Your transmission problem may be an electrical problem. I have had this problem in the past. The ECM that controls the transmission and the engine has a bad ground internally. GM makes a kit that has one wire and an instrution sheet that tells you how install the shunt wire. If not repaired it will cause the transmission to shift hard and it may have a flare between shifts and will, after a while burn the clutches and overheat the transmission. If you want your can call me and I will give you a part number and fax you a copy of the service bulletin. This repair was only for a vin # production date.
