I took my car in to have the antenna replaced. I was told that it was a mechanical antenna and that it would take about 3 hours to have fixed. I thought that was crazy but I decided to have the work done.

My father went with me to pick up my vehicle. I was charged $269.40 for an antenna. Come to find out, it wasn't mechanical and $170 of the bill was for man hours.

Considering this antenna is not mechanical, costs $15-20 in the stores and supposedly it took 3 hours to fix a "screwed in" type of antenna. I spoke with the Service Manager with no luck.

The actual charge should have been $15-20 for parts and $35-40 for 1 hour of labor...this is the max.

What a rip off...they see a woman and look out...it's "suck the blood" time.

YOU ARE COMFUSED!

AUTHOR: SANDRA - Phoenix (U.S.A.)

My husband is a mechanic and feels that you are not telling the complete truth in regards the repair that was needed to fix your antenna.

He say if it was a simple screw on antenna all you would have had to do was purchase the part and screw it on your self. The Service departments wouldn't waist there time to screw on an antenna, yours had to be an electrical antenna that come down when the radio if of or you turn off your vehicle. If you have a electric antenna then the amount you were charged is right on!

It is consumers like your self who complaint about everything looking for something for free that cost other consumers to pay higher prices for services! Get over it and next time I suggest you get a second opinion before you agree to have someone work on your vehicle.

My husband had spent years working on vehicle and almost every year updating his education to keep up with newly designs vehicle and medicinal features, so yes he deserves to charge a consumer $40.00 an hour for his services. Mechanics of today are not just grease monkeys they are very educated mechanical engineers who spend years to master there craft. A mechanic receives more on going education and training then doctors, teachers and many other!
