so why say it is autozones fault?

AUTHOR: Clueless - Jermyn (U.S.A.)

why is it autozones fault they wont warranty the battery?they dont have your # or your aunts # on record as the purchaser of the battery,so you didnt buy the battery, the garage did so if you kept the reciept you would have the garage # to give them to get the warranty.guess you should have checked this out when you got the car back!

And why would they

AUTHOR: Bart - Springfield (U.S.A.)

warranty a battery when there could very well be a charging system problem and nothing at all wrong with the battery. Which again would refer back to the diagnosing shop that told her it needed a battery.

Not AutoZones fault.

AUTHOR: Anonymous - San Francisco (U.S.A.)

Although I am an ex-employee of AutoZone, this is not a biased response. Anyways, in order for a warranty to be processed she must have a warranty under her name and # for the battery. Otherwise anyone that can obtain an old Duralast battery can just come in and do an exchange for another one. AutoZone has no reason to try to scam you. It could also not be the battery that is bad, it could be her alternator. You can have one of the employees test it for her whether you bring it in or leave it in the car.

only you are at fault

AUTHOR: Edward - Vine Grove (U.S.A.)

Mr./Ms. Putz:
At most reputable garages, the garage stocks a full line of batteries that is sold under a commercial brand name. Even though you will see maybe a hundred different brand names on a battery, there are only several manufactures of batteries. A shade tree garage will go to a parts store and buy one off of the shelf for their customer.

Surely she has a receipt from the garage that shows the name of the garage and what she paid for?

As far as the warranty goes, it is to the person. This warranty is on the back of every autozone receipt. With your way of thinking, a person should be allowed to get a part from any junk yard or car auction and take it to the parts store for a free exchange. If a person is in a garage or parts business, it is somewhat easy to identify which major parts house sold the alternator/ starter/ brake pads/ air compressors/ plug wires/fuel pumps and ignition parts and sensors.

You provided no receipt or proof of purchase/ via phone number but make a demand for replacement because it is their name brand.

As far as I have seen, all major retail outlets( walmart, sears, etc.) and all major auto parts stores require proof of purchase to warranty any of their batteries. If you were to buy a used car that had a autozone/ advance/ oreilly/ or napa battery in it and the battery goes bad, the parts house is not going to replace it unless you can show that you were the one that bought it. There may be a few exceptions to this rule but not many. Your demand for privileged treatment is not going to fly. It was and is the responsibility of your aunt to keep the warranty records.

Auto Zone Requests a Phone Number Every Time on a Purchase

AUTHOR: Michael - Waldorf (U.S.A.)

I know this because they have got hundreds of dollars from me in the past year for various reasons and every time you get a part from the counter or you buy something from the shelf, the 1st question is what is your phone number. Then they verify who you are, and ask which vechile this is for. Therefore, in case you do lose your receipt (although I would never throw mine away for auto parts, it is a good way to keep up with maintenance), they have a record of it.

Sorry original poster, your story doesn't fly. Lesson should be - keep a file of everything that is done with your car in a filing cabinet.

Auto Zone was within its rights to refuse you.

AUTHOR: Partman James - Midland (U.S.A.)

As the oringinial purchaser of the battery was the repair shop and not your grandmother, auto zone was within its rights to not honor the warranty on the battery. Auto zone only has to legally honor warranties to the oringinial purchaser, which is the repair shop and not your grandmother! You should learn to keep better records! You fail the common sense test!

Where to begin...

AUTHOR: PSM69 - (USA)

A. The date marked on the batteries sold at ALL AutoZones has nothing to do with when you purchased it. That is the date of manufacture.

B. If you had a shop get the battery, they might have a commercial account, Which means the warranty would be under that shop's name, and you would most likely need to call THEM.

C. Even if the shop didn't have a commercial account, unless they put the warranty under your aunt's telephone number and name, the AutoZone you went to would not have any way of looking up the warranty for the battery.

AutoZone makes it ridiculously easy for people to warranty parts they purchased, by not even requiring a receipt, as long as you have the telephone number that was given when the warranty was registered. We can even look up expired warranty items and returned items.
