I rented a car from alamo car rental in August 2009 from Greensboro Airport (GSO). I returned the car 1 day earlier because my returning flight was at Charlotte (CLT). 

When I picked up the car I was told to drop the car off in any available spot with their company so I did.  I got to the airport and dropped off the car in the same condition I picked it up. 

I know this because I have a habit of doing a walk around on my own car.  But Im usually just checking for flats because I work on a construction site.

Well, maybe about a month later I received a letter in the mail stating that Alamo has a claim against me because there is a dent in the passenger side door.  I called the claims department to dispute the claim.  The rep told me that the car was rented right back out a few days later and rented repeatly after that. 

She also told me that the car hadn't gone into the shop yet so maybe the claim was an error.

Well just yesterday 11/9 I recevied a letter from Vanessa Snell, Recovery Specailist for alamo (800) 327-0421 ext 6615 or 1918 401-6615. 

Attached was damage recovery bill for the amout of 1,038.78 which includes Loss of Use Charge. They claim there is a dent in the door but it took 4 days to fix the dent. 

Vanessa was extremely rude and barely let me talk. I let her know I want dipute the claim so she said she would get back to me.

This situation is terrible and extremely wrong.  Now i didnt buy insurance and I believe my card company covers this but even if they do, they shouldn't have to pay for something I had nothing to do with.  The is Wrong!

Same thing happened to me!

The same thing happened to me (see Ripped off in Frisco) and my husband had the same experience with Vanessa Snell, She was extremely rude to him as well.  Our credit card company will likely pay for the damages we did NOT do to the vehicle we had rented and Vanessa couldn't seem to understand the principal of the matter (her attitude was basically, since VISA will pay for it, why should we care?); if we didn't do the damage, why should our credit card company pay for it?!  As you said, it is just plain wrong!  I believe it's a SCAM used by this company as a lot of people would probably just drop the matter if a credit card pays for it.  We have reported our situation to the Better Business Bureau - turns out this company has an "F" rating (they are associated with Vanguard and Enterprise car rental and have had 45 similar complaints).  Our report was send to 'Alamo Rent A Car' at 600 Corporate Park Drive in Saint Louis, MO 63105.
