On 10/30/08 I returned a one day car rental to Enterprise at the Salt Lake City International airport. I had the car checked in and recieved a receipt for $44.20. Later, I discovered Enterprise said I scratched the lower rear passenger side bumper and charged my card $300 and $244.20 plus the rental fee of $44.20. I than learned from my credit card company they also charged $544.20. So I had over a $1000 of charges for a one day rental!
I assume they will credit the $300+$244.20+$44.20 charges and just focus on the $544.20 charge. Meanwhile my card has all of these charges and has tied up my credit line!.
The fact that Enterpise can just charge whatever they want to a card is fraudulent, a scam and criminal! The "scratch" was not caused by me and only came up AFTER the car had been checked in. The charges were done after I had left the rental agency!
What is interesting is that Enterprise asked whay may deducatable was at the time of the rental [red flag]...and than that was the amount they charged additional to my credit card. I assume it is because they think I would not report it to my insurance company and the insurance company would do nothing since I had a $500 deductable.
This is a scam to rip the consumer off. The scratch was most likely already their or caused later or may not even be there. I doubt they will repair it or to simply a buff out if it exisits. BUT they would make $500 PROFIT for a mid size one day rental.
I have filed a report to the credit card company denying the charges and will have to go after Enterprise. I have rented a zillion cars over the past 30 years without incident. This is the first time I used Enterprise due to low rates. Now I know why their rates are low. What a rip off and scam company! I have heard similiar stories from numerous other people. DO NOT RENT FROM ENTERPRISE!
