In August 2011, I rented a car with Hertz at the Miami, FL Airport. I was not advised that there was a transponder or similar device in the car, which recorded my passages through toll booths during the week I was in Florida.

Consequently, I paid the tolls myself at each booth, unaware that the charges were also recorded by the Plate Pass company. Upon reconciling my American Express card statements, I find an $11 charge from Plate Pass on my August bill. This means I have paid the tolls twice.

I then investigated the company on the Internet and found numerous complaints about this scam. It ia too late for me to fight this, but as a Hertz #1 Gold club member, I will certainly write a letter of complaint to the company.
