   On 7/31/2009 I purchased a brand new 2008 Dodge Caliber. At time of purchase a logo was missing on back and chipped paint there. Also no rod to hold hood up. On Aug. 6 got call to bring car in for noted items. Got there first thing that morning. Around 12:30 I was told the "new" paint peeled and they had the wrong hood rod. They put me in a rental car. They send the car to the paint shop ACS Collision (Marco). Monday 8/10 I call about my car, Dadeland tells me to call the paint shop, I call them. Marco says I don't have your car, I brought it back Sat. Another call to Dadeland finally someone locates the keys and finds the car. Service writer "Paula" knows all of the things that have been happening. Now car needs 2 logos on back and still no rod. I take car and bring back 8/13. 3 hours later that day I drive car off.   On 9/25 car stalls out,  I have it towed to Dadeland Dodge, car has 2000 miles on it.  After two days of calling it is finally looked at. They (Vicki) tells me the engine needs replaced and she has already ordered it. She says it is under manufacturers warranty and puts me in a rental car. She states engine would be in the next couple days and would take a couple days to do the work. She also stated I could only have a rental on days they are actually working so brought rental back on Sat. and got  another on 8/31. I continue to call all the next week, no answers, I expained to Vicki I have plans for the holiday week end, which require a car, she states keep the car until your car is done. She says the engine is in 9/2 but work won't start until Thurs. 9/3. Should be completed maybe Friday. Friday I get a call around 12:30 from Anita stating that now they are not honoring the warranty and I have to call my insurance company to pay for it. She states that it is hydo locked. Unwillingly I call insurance, Anita states to me I must have drove through a puddle. I state if that is the case there must be something wrong with the car because I did drive in the rain and puddles. Nothing out of the ordinary. So work has now stopped until Insurance comes. I continue to call and now no one knows nothing about the car because all the people I dealt with are not there. I called my insurance on 9/10 at 3:00pm and she states that adjuster was waiting on info from Dadeland.  On 9/11 I went into Dadeland, they had no idea what was going on with the car and didn't even know where it was located at. Now I am very upset, assigned another writer Evelyn, still Paula does continue to follow what is going on.  Evelyn called the insurance and sure enough they were waiting on Dadeland. I left very frustrated and with promises they would get back with me.  9/14 Dadeland gets the go ahead from insurance and 9/17 Evelyn calls and says car will be ready on 9//21. Now during all this they Dadeland stopped the rental and insurance picked it up and I have to pay 20% now of rental fees all the way back to the beginning. 9/21 I have my son go up there to see what is going on, first again no one knows what is going on with car, in bay up in air, no one on it. Evelyn tells my son it will be ready tomorrow, a mechanic comes by and says no, they ordered the wrong header and now the car is on hold again until part comes. Maybe the end of the week. I call Evelyn no phone call back. The saga continues.NO CAR!!!!

Suggestion regarding your Caliber.

Now keep in mind this is merely a suggestion since I have no legal back ground and I am unfamiliar with the laws of your particular state, but I have been in a very very similar situation.

When you first purchased the vehicle you should have received an owner's information package (in the glove box). Read the warranty booklet VERY carefully regarding catastrophic failure.

There are steps that you need to follow regarding the chain of contact. And so far from what I can tell your time window is closing so you will need to act fast. The Catastrophic Failure section will note there are recourses for YOU as the consumer regarding your particular issue but there is a 3 month from new end date I believe.

Like I said. Read it Carefully and Quickly.
