Auto Detail Job

The company stated that they would detail my car both inside and out. Touch-up any spots with touch-up paint and then wax and buff the car. They would shampoo the carpets and treat the whole interior. Scotch Guard the seats and steam clean the engine.

When I picked up the car I noticed that they had not cleaned the engine. I told them that I had requested it. They agreed and told me that I could have it done for free at a later date.

The next day I noticed that there was a spot on the hood were the paint was removed. It was round and about the size of a quarter. So I went in and told them that they had damaged my paint.

They stated that it was caused by bird droppings being left on the hood. Which caused the paint to lift and the buffing damaged the paint. I said even if that were true you should have pointed that out to me when I came to pick up the car. At that time I also noticed that they had not Scotch Guarded the seats nor touched-up any spots on the car.

They stated that for $80.00 they would repaint the hood and not charge me for the paint. Then after further discussion we found out that they would only paint a "section" of the hood. The hood would be color sanded and 1 coat of paint with 2 clear coats for a total thickness of 2.7 mil. If the paint did not match they would try to feather it out onto the panels.

The car is a 91 Miata that is in perfect condition. I have kept it clean and waxed and the past two owners have done the same. There has never been bird waste on the car long enough to dry let alone raise the paint. I don't feel that doing a section of the hood is a good idea and being charged for their mistakes is just plain wrong. The whole hood should be painted to match the rest of the car and I should not have to pay anything.
