Meineke Car Care Centers - Meineke Mufflers Scam--- O2 lean reading repairs on emmissions Pflugerville, Texas

Big mistake--took car in for "check engine light" evaluation, per referral of another shop.  Was told by Steve, manager, up front, evaluation was $89.95, but would include a $45.00 smoke test and if they found the problem and I let them do the repair work, the evaluation fee would only be $45.00.  After getting permission to run the check, Steve and the mechanics huddled secretly at the window, keeping me away from the conversation.  Later, the mechanic presented the report to Steve about what my problem was.  I was directed to the shop where the mechanic turned on a smoke machine and showed me some smoke leaking from the engine.  Said he had seen it many times, it was a crack in the lower intake.  also said my coil boots were old and needed to be replaced, along with a recommended tune-up to clear a misfire reading also.  I went back inside the office where Steve presented me with an estimate for $1500.  $1100 was for the lower intake and $400 was for a coil and replacement boots for the other coils.  I declined the repair.

I did some internet searches of similar problems reported on emission codes, checked my car out and sure enough, found the same problems.  Long story short--1 coil and spark plug for $60.00.  PVC and hoses $20.00.  Repair time-1 hour as a novice.  Result--no more emission codes, vehicle passed state emission testing with flying colors.  $80.00 sure beats $1500.00, plus the $89.95 I paid to be lied to and offered a scam.

Stay away from this shop for anything.
