Hello to all readers again. Yesterday I had a issue with my 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. I started getting this very bad shimmy in my sterring wheel. Again since they were so close to my home I decided to try one more time. I know one of the Employee's now that work there (feel sorry for him). Unfortunalty he was not working that day. I drove my truck there at 8:45am waited 15 minutes for the door to unlock, I fugured I get there early enough to be the first customer. Around 11:55 they finally got my truck in and put it on the lift. I could see it through the window in the air. So I sat that and watched as the mechanic was taking my wheels off, as i was watching he must had the wrench in the wrong position because he was looking at the air gun and my rim. He walked into the front desk and the manager and him walked back to my truck the whole time while I was watching. the manager walked out and said there was a problem that one of the stud's on my wheel broke because of old age. i asked the manager why did he stop and look at the gun a looked up to you (the manager). the manager had no response. as he was (the so called cracker jack mechanic) looking over my vehicle I figured it just needed brake or an adjustment. About another hour and a half the manager called me to the counter and gave me a huge list of what needs to be done.
He said and i have the quote.
A. I need to replace the Calipers in the front end of the truck.
B. I needed new rotor's
C. I needed to put new pads on (even though the pads were brand new.)
D. I will need to order 2 new front Rims because they are bent
E. I should replace tires. (as a inspector we check tires all the time, my tire depth was 6 in the front and 8 in the back. still in good condition.
F. I need to replace the master cylider, because there was not enough pressure to control the caliper's and that is why my caliper's locked up in the first place.
G. A full wheel alignment. was told that it was way off.
The total cost for this quote was $2,494.09
Again I told them that I did not have that kind of money and that I will have to park the truck for awhile to save up for it. The manager seemed understanding and told me he could take off 30.00 of labor if I agree to have them do the work that day. WOW an whole 30.00 dollar's.
Distraught as I was I decided to go to my old mechanic who I thought was very fair. I let him drive the truck and he came back and said it needed some machine time. meaning he had cut my rotor's. After that he took the truck back out and an hour later the shimmy and everything was gone.
My charge for that was $90.00. As I am writting this I feel now that Pep Boys will not be my choice ever again. I toldmy friend who works there about it and he decided to quit because of how dishonest they are. And for all you reader's I have filed a complaint with the BBB, and hopefully they do something about this dishonesty at those locations.
tried calling pep boys main office and they told me that I have to take it up with the general manager, not the corporate offices
