I took my Mercury Villager van for alignment. When I let go of the steering wheel, the car goes to left every time. Sears rep told me that I have to replace right hand side outer tie red end before they can do the alignment. I was not sure what is tie rod. I did not have any issues with my steering but I decided to go ahead with their suggestions. It took almost 4hours for them to finish the job. After they gave the van back to me, I tested my alignment again and car still pulled to left. I went back within five minutes and they told me that they cannot fix the alignment and I have to take it to dealer. I got them to agree to recheck and redo the alignment using one of their other technician. I went next week for realignment but it is still not fixed.

I googled information about tie rods. With this information, I looked under the van to see the replaced tie rod. The tie rod on my van does not look new, it looks like it has been there for years.

I can take it back to sears and they most likely redo the alignment, but I think this will be simply waste of time. Can anyone suggest what are my options.

Thanks,

Imoho

First things first

AUTHOR: Robert - Bowie (U.S.A.)

No alignment can be attempted if anything is worn out. That's why they told you it needed a tie rod.

Now, check the tire pressure. It should be what the manufacturer recommends, and you'll fnd that info on the door jam. Check the pressure cold with a GOOD pressure gauge. If this is not an issue, have the front tires swapped left to right. If this eliminates the pull, the problem is the tire.

You have other front end parts that can contribute to your problem. These also need to be checked...struts, control arms and bushings, brakes not releasing, etc.

You can either have a Dealership check these, or a different repair facility. I would never trust Sears. They invented the class action lawsuit...as the defendant.

Good luck.
