Most shops have a 70% GPM(gross profit margin). This does not mean they mark the part up by 70%. If I buy a $20 part, I have to double that cost to get a 50% margin on it. Get it? 100% markup equals 50% GPM. Add labor to get the other 20% in most cases.

You were not ripped off. You have never built a 10 second anything. If you had, you'd understand how profit/profit margin works.

Doubling the cost of the part will generate a 50% profit margin. The only way to have a 100% profit margin is to NOT pay for the part at all. I'm betting the only financial advice you can give is to Congress.

I never said you add 20% labor. Try putting down the bong...it's really not helping you. I said you get the other 20% with labor. You get the first 50% GPM from doubling the cost of the part.

Wrong as always. Your increase of $17.88 gives you a 65% inrease in price, while still only giving you a GPM of 39%. On second thought, don't give financial advice to Congress...they have all the bad ideas they can handle.

Yes, they do. The programs are set up to give at least a 70% GPM before the numbers are green. The estimator shows the GPM on the screen if you know what to look for.

Uh huh. I own a 528HP Firebird. It makes 595 FTLBS of torque, and weighs less than 2000 pounds. It's all engine...no add-ons.
