I went for an oil change and all fluid check at the local Jiffy Lube service center. I specifically asked them to check the transmission fluid since I noticed a leak under my Honda Passport.

Twelve days later on I 57 in Illinois my transmission quits and I have to have it towed 98 miles to a transmission shop and then I find out that the transmission is 5 quarts low and second gear on the automatic transmission is shot.

I specifically asked for them to check the fluid in the transmission and I was told that it was fine and I had no worries except a small leak.

12 days later I have a ruined transmission and nobody from Jiffy Lube will answer any questions or give me any comments.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

Small leak

AUTHOR: Josh - Rolla (U.S.A.)

Doesn't sound like this is Jiffy Lube's problem AT ALL. Jiffy Lube is not a shop, it's a quick oil change place. If you think there is something wrong with your car, you should take it to a mechanic.

They told you your transmission had a leak -- why did you keep driving the car? There is no way for an oil change technician to know if a leak is serious or not, and small leaks can turn into large ones quickly. Not to mention, if the transmission was indeed 5 quarts low (which means it was basically bone-dry), you should have noticed problems long before any damage occurred.

Sounds like you were too lazy to actually maintain your car and too cheap to take it to a mechanic. Good luck getting Jiffy Lube to pay for your repairs, especially since it doesn't sound like it's their fault in any way.

TRUE

Josh is right, find a qualified automotive shop. Kwik Lube shops are good at one thing, or are they?

#3 Consumer Suggestion

R.E. Ruined Transmission

AUTHOR: J.p. - Wilmington (U.S.A.)

Don't Stew - Sue! Go to small claims court. The more often these people are dragged into court the sooner they will get their act together. Make sure you subpeona the mechanic that repaired your transmission and subpeona the owner and manager of the jiffy lube that did the work as well as the mechanic that worked on your car. Good Luck

ATF

Honda Trans. Fluid should be checked while the engine is off. If it is checked while the engine is running you can get a false reading. Some of the employee's are unaware of this.

If you contacted the location, the district manager, and the corp. office and got no results as to not properly performing a service that they advertise you should contact the BBB and file a complaint. If you asked and they checked and told you it was low and you opt'ed to do nothing thats on you. But if they checked it and said it was OK when it was actually low then that means that they either did not check it or read the dip stick right. Most locations will make notes on the repair order in a weak attempt to make sure that they are not responsible for or they will state other information as well. If they made no notes then I would say they are responsible.
