I took my car in for diagnostics at my appointment time (10:00AM). I was told I would be called before any work was done to my vehicle that was not covered under my warranty. I thanked them and left.
Over four hours later (after 2PM), I heard from the services department. I was told my repairs would total over $1200, and I was told I should look elsewhere for services/repairs. I agreed.
I went to pick up my car and was given a PRE-INVOICE and told I owed over $90. I asked, "For what?" It was for "labor" only to turn off an airbag light. I asked if it was covered under warranty and I was told no. I said I was not called about this (and I would be called before any work was done that was not under warranty), and I did not approve it. The mechanic then pointed to the document I signed for diagnostics and said, "Is this your signature?" He then said that I approved the work because I signed a form for DIAGNOSTICS.
I continued to say that I did not give authorization for the work that was done. I had a friend go with me who heard:
(1) I would be called to authorize any charges not covered by my warranty
(2) The telephone call about the $1200 in charges which I declined (the telephone call was on speakerphone)
After telling the mechanic that I did not authorize the charges, the mechanic then said that it did not "matter" because I had a "$100 deductible" on my warranty so the $90 in "labor" would not have been covered by the warranty anyway.
I have filed a complaint with the BBB and I am going to file a consumer complaint with the Attorney General for the state. I am also looking for an attorney who specialists in car repair fraud. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated!
