Valvoline Instant Oil Change Unfair Assesment Test For Hiring! essexville, Michigan

Went to Valvoline Instant Oil Change today to fill out application for Employment, ( Note: I am currently in college to become an Auto Service Technician) I talked to one guy who was working and he told me no experience was needed. He then told me that I needed to go online to apply for the job, and gave me a card with the website address. I came home got on my computer and first thing I had to do was register before I could fill out the application (???????). Okay now after I registered I had to fill out the resume then once that was done I had to take a test! Oh okay no problem right? Yeah Big Problem The test had nothing to do with the job I was applying for (Service Tech) Also I had 5 minutes to answer questions that again had nothing to do with being a service tech.
The Questions were too confusing for me to explain on here. After the 5min was up I was directed to the next section which was unbelievably a compatibility test ( like the ones you fill out on dating sites) Some of the questions were understandable but most of them again had nothing to with the job.
Finally I completed the test and was directed to next section which OH Bummer I failed ( Hmm I wonder Why?) Now I have to wait 3 months before i can take the test again, ummmmm nope not gonna do it. I have never had to, EVER complete a test and take a compatibility test when applying for a job. Is this a ripoff. I think so. If the test was more related to job okay but random questions and compatibility test is going way to far.

This is fairly common these days. The last three jobs I applied for had compatibility/personality tests involved to make sure I would be a fit for the company. These are very common tools for HR departments to use in vetting candidates

Sorry having a company giving you an assessment test is NOT a RipOff.
There is nothing wrong with Compatibility for a position, and many businesses use these tests to "qualify" an applicant. For example if your "compatibility" says that you like to work alone and hate to take direction, if they are a "team" oriented business you are NOT going to be a good fit. Where the chances of you actually quiting(or being fired) is going to be greater than someone who shows that they are a "team player".
These tests are not meant to be confusing. Take this as a learning experience and think about why they were confusing, and what you can do to fix it. Because the chances of having to take the same(or similar) tests with another company is very possible.
Also, when you get to a face to face interview you have to expect the same types of questions. So if your first reaction to what you think is an unrelated question is to tell them that the question is not fair or a RipOff, their reaction will be to show you the door.
