I took my tire that was leaking air to Discount Tire on Waco Dr. to get it patched up and they told me it was ruined, and that I need a new one. I told them to just put the tire back on so I could take it to Sears because I have a warranty on it there. Then, the guy refused to put it back on saying that I might have a blowout but I told the guy I had been driving on it for weeks like that so just put it back on. Then he said well, we will just loan you one of our tires, and I said OK. So they put one of their tires on and kept mine! How am I supposed to go to Sears and get it fixed or take advantage of the warranty when these people still have my tire??

I called Sears and they said I need to get my old tire back from Discout Tire ASAP. Discount Tire was obviously trying to make me break down and buy this tire they stuck on my car. Im going there today to get my old tire back and take it to Sears, and they better still have it or I'm going to be pissed.

Stealing My Old Tire...

AUTHOR: Allen - (USA)

Well they might have not put it back on if there was damage on the inside of the tire.  It's not the blowout when it's on the car, its more that they are worried it may be unsafe to air up.  They take safety of employees very seriously and some damage to tires is so bad that it can not be re-mounted.  Sometimes unfortunately this is something we are unable to see until it is taken apart.

They probably offered to loan you a tire for their troubles, at least to help you out since you had no tire to mount on the wheel to get your vehicle to Sears, even though we don't want to see you use the competition, it is understandable that you had a warranty there.

I'm sorry they didn't give you the original tire back at first...that sucks...but if you go back they should be more than happy to grab it for you...there is no use in them keeping it.  Sounds like they were just trying to help but accidentally forgot to give you back the old tire...mistakes happen, and I hope they apologized and you got your tire back.  They just want you to leave happy :)

Reason's Why

AUTHOR: BenCronin04 - (USA)

To begin with the above poster is correct. We will not put back on and air up run flat tires whether the customer requests it or not. It is all for safety issues. Here at Discount Tire we take the safety of our employees extremely seriously. Even though you drove on the tire like that, a run flat tire can easily blow up during inflation. All of our stores now have "cages" that tires are aired up in, incase of a blow out during inflation. We sadly lost an employee a few years ago before we had the cages, that’s why we installed 2 or more at every store. Now on to the issue of "stealing" the tire. Discount Tire "loaned" you a tire, which we lose money on because your wearing down tread on a tire we could be selling, probably because you did not have a spare, or the DOT on the spare was out of date. On top of that, we gave you a loaner tire for a tire you did not even purchase from Discount Tire, about your upset??? Most likely if you left the old tire over night, it’s already been thrown out. We have no reason to keep old tires that are not repairable.
