ON THE FRIDAY BEFORE LABOR DAY MY FRIEND HAD HER CAR IMPOUNDED BY THE CHP. THE TOWING COMPANY HAS NO COMPASSION ABOUT THE FACT THAT SHE HAS A PACEMAKER AND ONLY 60 DAYS TO LIVE! THIS WAS CONFIRMED BY HER CARDIOLOGIST. THEY INSIST ON CHARGING HER $160.00 FOR THE TOW + $28.00 PER DAY AND AFTER 72 HOURS TO PLACE A LIEN AGAINST HER CAR. SHAME ON THIS COMPANY WHO COULD EASILY AFFORD LETTING HER OFF WITH JUST THE TOW FEE INSTEAD OF ALL THE EXTRAS.

WHY the car was towed? Regardless of your freind's health condition, if they parked illegally, then the law is very clear and you have nothing to complain about.

Even though the vehicle had no insurance, the tow company could, at the owners discretion, out of the kindness of his heart, reduce the amount of the storage charges. Not the impound fee. All the owner wants, whom is raising 2 children, is an even break. The car is barely worth the towing costs.

I'm sorry your friend is ill.
Now that that is out of the way, what about giving the rest of us law-abiding drivers an even break?
Last I checked, CA requires insurance just as NY does. Anyone who has ever been hit by an uninsured driver and didn't have collision coverage knows what I'm writing about. The injured party has to foot the bill for the property damages!
Your friend's car was illegally on the road, and I'll assume that at some point someone was driving it every now and then (otherwise it would have been parked in a garage or back yard), and you think it's unfair that the owner of a private business won't cut her a break? What about the rest of us who pay higher insurance rates to make up for all the uninsured vehicles on the road?
Just because someone is ill, or a mother of 2, 3 or 10, or taking care of someone doesn't justify breaking the law. It amazes me how folks will play the "victim" or "heartbreak" card to justify illegal acts and then claim to be a victim of some bad business that won't give them a reduced rate for no other reason than they want to pay less.
Also, if your friend is as ill as you claim, I can only hope that CA has revoked her driver's license. What about the folks that might be harmed if she has a heart attack while driving.
Make no mistake, I am saddened that your friend is ill - but you and your friend need to understand that illness doesn't justify driving illegally, having a car on public streets illegally, or driving with a medical condition that puts others at risk as well as herself and her 2 children.
BTW, they are plenty of social services in Californie (as in NY) that will provide FREE transportation for her so she may go shopping, make medical appointments, and such. I suggest you help your friend apply for these services and get her off the road!
