I am in Phoenix for a week, visiting friends. I lived here for eight years and have been looking forward to seeing my old friends here. I went to Saban's on Monday, 1/26/04 to rent a car. I had called from Scottsdale and was told they had a "special" this week on their older cars. It was a $99/week rate.

I took a bus from Scottsdale to Central Phoenix and went to the Sabans location on McDowell (they are now at 29St/McDowell). I went in and spoke to a very young guy, I believe his name is Chad. He was very short with me. I reviewed the contract and was told that I would be charged $99 for the week, %18.5 percent tax, and $11.99 "cleaning fee". He said my total would be $137.50 for the week. I gave him my credit card and he ran it through. When he got back with my card he said that I would also need to have insurance verification faxed to him, stating that I had insurance in New Jersey.

I did that the next day. I called to make sure Sabans recieved my insurance info. This time I spoke with Nathan! He is EXTREMELY rude and completely incompetent. He explained that because I only had liability on my personal policy at home, that I would have to pay an extra $8.95 per day for insurance! The total for this piece of junk car is going to cost me at least $200 for the week!

I am not allowed to take the car out of the Phoenix area, I was given the car with 1/8 of a tank of gas, the passenger window does not work, I have been hung up on by Nathan AND Al, who is supposedly the GM. I called every TV station in Phoenix and had a call back from Channel 12. A woman named Vina called Sabans
and when she called me back she said that Al was the rudest person she ever spoke to!!!

The Attorney General asked that I file a report. I wonder when someone will finally investigate this company. I have a feeling there's a lot more to whats going on here!

#1 Consumer Suggestion

What were you thinking????

AUTHOR: Misty - Phoenix (U.S.A.)

Ok.....let me stop laughing for a minute! WHAT were you thinking when you took this car? Did you not see it before you decided to take it?? I don't know how long it's been since you lived here, but Arizona has strict insurance laws. The company you rented this junker from DOES have a vested interest in their property (ie the car) and required you to have more than just liability insurance; so what??? What's the great big, AWFUL deal??? You're whining about the shape the car was in, but YOU were the one that took it! You're whining about having to pay a little extra for the insurance, but you're the one that doesn't have full coverage! Get a life......

Misty you really need to get a life

AUTHOR: Lori - Cleveland (U.S.A.)

I have lived in Arizona for years and am familiar with insurance requirements in multiple states. If Sabans has such a vested interest in their vehicles then why did they rent me one that the brakes went out on in less than 24 hours then why did they tell me to drive it back from California in that condition and why did they replace a malibu with a nasty smoke filled malfunctioning taurus which by the way I didnt get a chance to see it first they brought it to my hotel. This is one of the most underhanded fraudulent companies I have ever done business with but dont you worry. I am in the process of bringing a class action lawsuit against them and will help as many of their victims recover their losses as I can. Thankfully you wont be one of them. Oh but have a nice day.

Lori, class action sounds great! Contact me!

AUTHOR: Josh - Cape May (U.S.A.)

Lori, I still have all my documentation and would be willing to do whatever necessary in order to bring an end to this company. they have ripped off so many people! I contacted the AZ Attorney General and they have had numerous complaints. I also contacted the BBB and they have 11 complaints on record. This company is ripping people off every day...I wish the Phoenix news stations would do some investigating. let me know!
