I have the Great Lakes Titanium Advantage Warranty on my 2001 BMW 740 iL.  After a series of problems, I found out the engine was bad and needed to be replaced.  My mechanic called Great Lakes and told them what was going on, and they approved the claim.  Then the adjuster disagreed with my mechanic on the cause of the engine problems and Great Lakes said they would not pay.

After getting nowhere with their customer support, I filed suit against the company for the cost of replacing the engine.  Great Lakes then agreed to settle out of court, but never paid.  So we set a new court date, and they did not send representation.

The judge ruled in my favor and filed a judgment against Great Lakes Warranty Corporation, which they did not pay.  We then went back to court and had a lien placed on the company.

This was six months ago, and they still have not paid.

I am unable to reach a live person at the company, and am not sure if this will ever be resolved, as it has been going on for about 15 months now.  After multiple attempts to reach the company, my wife did get in touch with someone in accounts payable, but she was told that they are not allowed to discuss the status of legal matters.

I paid $2,000 for my warranty, which is less than this particular claim ... but I'm pretty sure as an insurance company, they factor these types of claims in.  Not sure why or even how they have been able to avoid a lien on the company for this long.

I got curious about the financial status of the company, so I researched on the Internet.  While I could not find any information about the financial status of the company, I was quite shocked at the number of complaints against them -- then to see they still maintain a B- rating from the Better Business Bureau.

Honestly, if this is their common practice, I'm not even sure how they stay in business.
