Capital One Securities - International Claims Department - With Contact Name Of Nicky Boyd - This company is sending out physical scam checks for $4,993 with a letter titled "Winning Final Notification." and a contact name of Nicky Boyd Newmarket Ontario

I received a letter with the title Capital One Securities Inc. The subtitle for the company is International Claims Department, 140 Main St. Newmarket, Ont.

The title on the letter said "Winning Final Notification"

And ironically enough a real check inside for $4993. (MAJOR RED FLAG!)
This is another spin to the email check scams that have been circulating for years.
The letter asks me to cash and wire a portion ($2995) back to them "to cover taxes" via Moneygram or Western Union. The letter clarifies once they receive the funds, I will receive a final check for $245,000 (a real hook of an offer).

I would have been real trouble if I had followed through because once you cash the check, the company stops payment and you are charged by authorities with passing a fraudulent check.

It is a shame this stuff goes on, especially in this economy when people may be a little more gullible to this stuff.
The FBI has been contacted about this check, and they have numerous cases like this.
Do your part to shred these letters and advise others (who may not be aware) to avoid this scam.
