I JUST WANT TO SAY, READING ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT 5TH/3RD BANK, IT'S REFRESHING THAT I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING PROBLEMS.  I GET HIT BY THEIR ONLINE BANKIG SCAM ALL OF THE TIME, THIER ONLINE SYSTEM WILL TELL ME THAT I HAVE MONEY IN MY ACCOUNT WITH NOTHING PENDING, THEN A SHORT TIME LATER IT WILL TELL ME THAT I HAVE INSUFFICIANT FUNDS AND CHARGE ME A OUTRAGIOUS FEE. WHEN I CALL THEY WILL EITHER SAY THAT THEY DON'T HAVE THE AUTHORIZATION TO REFUND THE MONEY, OR THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY CAN DO.  AFTER LOOSING ABOUT A $1000 IN A COUPLE OF MONTHS, I've HAD ENOUGH I'M LEAVING THIS BANK.

How to Avoid Over-draft Fees

AUTHOR: Ann O - Borealis (United States of America)

While Fifth Third, like all banks, is far from perfect, I would like to point out that the online banking feature is not a scam or intended to rip you off. If you are over-drawing your account, it is because you are not balancing your checkbook.

The online banking feature is not intended to take the place of maintaining your own financial records - due to difference in processing, some transactions take several days to post - that has nothing to do with the bank.

It is up to the customer to keep track of what they spend. If you are not spending more money than what you have in your account, you won't have overdraft fees. It's as simple as that.

Also, if you call and complain, chances are that the person you are talking to does NOT have authorization to reverse fees. Fee reversal is a courtesy extended to customers who do not regularly overdraw their accounts. You have to go the the branch that you opened your account at and speak to a banker there, as it goes against their balance sheet.

I understand how frustrating overdraft fees are, but please don't blame the bank because you cannot keep track of what you spend.

good luck!!

AUTHOR: Stacey - Dallas (U.S.A.)

Because you will have the same problems at any bank unless you keep an accurate check register, reconcile your monthly bank statement, stop relying on online balances and stop spending money you do not have

Stop blaming the bank and start taking responsibility for your money!!

PS learn to spell
