You had asked your bank to put a stop to allowing money to go thru when there is no money in your account, and the bank says that they do if for courtsey in case of emergency, well it would be your luck that your mortgage/rent payment happens to be that emergecny that was going thru..Not alone would the bank still charge and overdraft fee, plus also whoever you wrote the check to may also charge you a fee. So I would leave the account as it stands and just make sure next time , you have money in the bank for debits coming thru.
I have asked my bank to stop that and they did. I never needed it anyway and also overdraft protection..Totally useless to me.And a few seconds later and a click of a button it was done.I don't know who you asked, but I would go to the bank branch and ask if they would do it for me. Customer serviced at the 800 # can only do so much and probably send you to the branch anyway. Also if you have free checking, that may soon stop in Febuary when the new laws take effect. Thanks to all who overdraft, my understanding was that the overdrafts was paying for all the free checking accounts out there.
