If you think of opening an account with Cascade bank I suggest you do homework and hear what victims of this bank's unfair banking practices have to say. Don't be fooled by the description "locally owned bank" or "Washington's own bank". This bank is as crooked as the big guys: US Bank, Bank of America, Chase.

I opened an account with them nearly 2 years ago. I thought: it's a local bank, small establishment, I am sick of being ripped off by the big chain national banks, how much worse can it be. Well, you don't really get much from them, not even adequate customer service.

With the passing of the new law where customers can opt in or out of 'whatever they call the new overdraft policy' because it's only understandable to them and not the consumer, they really got smart at it.

I clearly indicated: I wanted to opt out. If I don't have sufficient funds in my account don't gamble, reject all transaction and any charges that hit my account be it debit card, check or automatic payment. If I leave my account empty it's for a purpose. Apparently they interpreted it their own way and thought they could beat the system against all odds.

I intentionally left my account empty so no transaction could go through. For some reason Cascade bank ignored my request and approved an unwanted electronic payment and left my account in negative. Then an overdraft charge, negative balance daily fees. How can you trust these hooligans? What, was that transaction more important than me, their customer. No, they don't care. They want to hit you and hit you real hard.

Called the local branch, got spitted in the face. They wanted me to cover the amount of that unwanted transaction and the NSF fees. No way, not me, they won't see a penny from me. So I turned around and left the mess behind, they caused it, let them clean their own act.

Now they closed my account and sent it to collection. Who do they think they are trying to outsmart? I've seen this before. Not a chance.

My advice: if you have an account with them close it and find yourself a credit union to do business with. CU's are better at banking, fair and professional. Cascade Bank is joke, a bunch of unprofessional, unhelpful, greedy and big time gamble individuals.

NOT THE BANK YOU CAN TRUST. Don't make the mistake l did, don't do business with them. It's not the customer they care about, it's the money that they are trying to pull out through various tactics and dishonest practices. Another member of the brotherhood. You think the big banks are bad, wait until Cascade Bank pull the strings. Definitely not a bank worth your attention.

Your wrong...

AUTHOR: Robert - Irvine (U.S.A.)

If I don't have sufficient funds in my account don't gamble, reject all transaction and any charges that hit my account be it debit card, check or automatic payment.

- The new "overdraft" regulations ONLY covered Debit Card Point-of-Sale and ATM transactions.  No where did you even see a hint that it covered Checks or ACH transactions.  But even if it wasn't clear to you, did it ever occur to you to go ask them what it all meant?

Banks did and still maintain the option to pay or not pay a Check or ACH.  If they pay it they can charge you an Overdraft Fee.  But even if they do reject the ACH or Check you will get assessed an Rejected Item fee, this is often as much as the Overdraft fee.  But if the item is rejected the company that submited the item will probably charge you a returned item fee as well.  If it is any form of credit you will also be charged late fees and additional interest.

Based on what you wrote here you decided you didn't want to pay an Automatic Debit and thought you could outsmart that company by not having any money in your account.  However, it also appears that since you have "seen this before" this is not the first time you have tried this with other banks.  So I really wonder who is doing the "dishonest practices".

By the way when your account was turned over to collections you were most likely also placed into ChexSystems.  This is a database that most banks and credit unions use to check to see if someone has an outstanding debt with another bank.  So when you open an account they may check to see if you are in ChexSystems.  If so you will be denied.  But don't think that if you were able to open an account that you are home free.  With the new regulations a lot of banks and Credit Unions have gone to reviewing existing accounts.  If during this review they notice you are in ChexSystems they will still close your account.

I see what happened.

AUTHOR: Flynrider - Phoenix (USA)

"I intentionally left my account empty so no transaction could go through."

You opted out of debit card overdrafts and assumed that it applied to all types of transactions.   I can see why you've had trouble at other banks.  If you operate on what you assume the terms to be, rather than bothering to read the actual terms, you will continue to have issues.   You've not been successful dealing with the "big banks" and now you've failed at a small bank.   Are you seeing the common denominator yet?

Don't blame the bank

AUTHOR: coast - (USA)

because it's only understandable to them and not the consumer

It's clear. Did you actually read the flyers sent by the bank?

reject all transaction and any charges that hit my account be it debit card, check or automatic payment

The opt-out option does not include checks or ACH transactions.

thought they could beat the system

That is a lie. YOU, not the bank attempted to beat the system.

left the mess behind, they caused it, let them clean their own act

Another lie. You caused the mess.

NOT THE BANK YOU CAN TRUST.

YOU are the one that can't be trusted. You are a dishonest person.

Idiots huh?

AUTHOR: coast - (USA)

At least I know how much is in my checking account.

A person with no money has more than you because your account is in the negative.

Easy solution! Maintain an ACCURATE checkbook register!

AUTHOR: Steve - Bradenton (U.S.A.)

Just another example of a person who refuses to keep an accurate checkbook register.

Is that 3rd grade math really that hard for you? I only ask because you appear to be borderline illiterate by the way your posts are written.

Why not just keep an accurate checkbook register and avoid all possibilities of overdraft in the first place?

Just common sense here, and a really simple solution.

Now, you have really screwed yourself, as you will now be in ChekSystems and will not be able to open an account anywhere until you resolve the open collections on the account you screwed up.

But in your feeble little mind you won that battle, right?

What a loser.

Go back to the third grade and finish your education so you can make an intelligent post, and learn the basic math skills to maintain an accurate checkbook register.

AUTHOR: Thesadreality - seattle (U.S.A.)

To the smart idiot Steve - Bradenton, who filed the last rebuttal. I have a better education than you. If you had any kind of education you'd be busy doing something useful. Instead you make an a..s of yourself. People have too much time on their hand today.

Pretty funny

AUTHOR: Ramjet - Somewhere (U.S.A.)

OK 'Thesadreality' you have made a fool of yourself.  Every responder explained to you why you are dead wrong and your only response is an illiterate irrelevant one liner that addresses nothing.

Clearly you have learned nothing and will continue to have problems until you decide to pay attention and mend your ways.

I doubt you will do that, good luck in life, you'll need it.
