I was wondering if I was the only one! If I was the only person in Texas that was having trouble dealing with Compass Bank. What was happening with my money? Why were there so many NSF fees? Exactly when were they posting my deposits? I got online and started researching. I found that I'm not alone. It's a good money making scheme: advertise no ATM fees-then take every bit in other fees to make up for it.

I would like to band with others that have been taken advantage of and do something. After all, guess who gets to use our money to benefit their bottom line when we deposit it.

I Agree

AUTHOR: James - Grand Bay (U.S.A.)

Same here. Seems everyone is having the same problem. They have been screwing me for years. I also thought I was the only one, until I had finally gotten fed up. Now I am looking for a lawyer. I'll ban with you.

Ive never had a problem at Compass......

AUTHOR: Tony - Euless (U.S.A.)

Ive banked at Compass for over 5 years, and not once have I been over drawn.....I write down everything I spend in my check register, and every month, its to the tee. I think most people think the bank is their personal accountant. They are not, they are in the business of making money, not unlike every bank/business out there. If you let your gaurd down with your money, youo are asking to get messed up. Its your money, you should know how much you have in your account before the bank does, because your the one spending it. I bet you anything if everyone kept an accurate register, they would never get charged....but most people find it easier to blame their lack of money management skills on the bank, because of course, you are perfect and you never make mistakes.....

I am ready!

AUTHOR: Chad - Allen (U.S.A.)

I have also noticed that unlike any other bank Compass seems to post something when they feel like it, this includes Direct Deposits.

I will ban with you and do something. I live in Allen just south of you.

I'm in the same boat you are

AUTHOR: Kevin - San Anronio (U.S.A.)

Just now I check my balance and it's lower than it should be. I called the bank and they told me that I had an NSF fee for a check that I had written. I think it should've posted after my direct deposit was posted. What they do is post all withdrawals first, then they post deposits. My Compass Bank charges and outrageous fee of $38.00 for overdraft.

And, their online banking is useless. For example: my balance is $2,300 and I use my check card through out the day, when I check my balance at the end of the day it shows nothing has changed. All balances are the same eventhough they should be about $204.00 lower than they were that morning. They update their online and telephone system when they want to. For example: last week on payday, I went to go buy groceries my total came out to $224.43, fine, I thought I had it. According to the bank I didn't have it. They didn't post my direct deposit until Monday. So I got an overdraft fee. It's very frustrating.

I may be switching banks. Maybe you should too.

Why so many NSF Fees?

AUTHOR: Bill - Houston (U.S.A.)

Sue

Why are you letting your account overdraw? I will agree the overdraft fees are very high! But are you keeping up with a check register? Are you writing everything you spend down? Every bank has what is called a cut off time for deposits. Example today is Monday lets say the cutoff time is 4pm. What this means to you is your deposit has to be in the bank before 4pm in order for it to be available the next day. If you make the deposit at 5pm it is just like you had made it on Tuesday and your money will be available Wednsday. Now if you make your deposit before 4pm and lets say your deposit is $100.00 and lets say your current available balance at the time of your deposit before 4pm is $25.00. If you leave that bank and use your debit card for more than $25.00 you are going to be overdrawn!!! You have to let your deposit post before you can use the money??? It must be in your available balance! Just because they give you a receipt that doesnt automatically mean you can use those funds immediately.

And lets say you wrote a check on friday before your deposit on Monday before 4pm and lets say the check was for $60.00. The federal government has enacted a new law called check 21 and basically what that means to you is no more float in other words the check will more than likely clear the sameday it was written but not post to your account until the next business day which is Monday. But you wrote the check before your deposit. YOU ARE GOING TO BE OVERDRAWN!!! Moral of the story don't spend money you dont have!! Every bank charges OD fees. if you found the Utopia please share that with all of us so we can all bank there.

Direct Deposit

AUTHOR: Zia - Modesto (U.S.A.)

Hello, I have read your posts and after reading, I have the following comments:

1. My wife & I both have direct deposit. With my bank, it is a pending credit the morning of the pay check date and it official posts that night. However, here is an example for the person who was grocery shopping. If you have food or stuff you need, but still need to shop, use a 24hr. grocery store (we have FoodMaxx). Anyways, go shopping after 9 p.m. so that even if you have to use a check-card, you can use a credit transaction and it won't even show as pending debit until the next business day. By then, you're direct deposit (pending) will reach your account before the debit even becomes a thought process. That will prevent any overdrafts from processing. These bank people might be smart, but we humans were'nt born yesterday, either.

Good luck

Ill join in!

AUTHOR: Youcaughtmehere - Keller (U.S.A.)

We are having the same problem, especially with direct deposit! Doesnt matter if you have a deposit pending...if they have debits coming in the sametime, theyll run those debits before the credit! Its a rip off! I use to work in a bank, and know for a fact they can see that deposit pending to post, but they still will run your debits before the deposit, thats how they make their money!

My husbands direct deposit came in and some debits at the same time, and they ran the debits first then the deposit, you will see this all happened on the same date...funny. I refuse to pay the nsf fees....I wont do it. They wont help you,I have a hard time explaining myself to a 19 yr old who had 2 days of training to be a banker....tell me how to balance my check book...thats not the issue here, and you all know your situation, but everyone assumes you cant add or subtract...compass refuses to take any blame.Their a rip off for sure! I emptied my acct asap...the negitive nsf's can sit there til i straighten this out!

Id like to join in with all of you and do something.
Im in Keller.
