My wife and I have been customers with Fifth Third bank for over ten years.  Recently we overdrew our account, we were off by one day thinking that a federal holiday would have postponed some items clearing our account.  We were wrong.  Thinking that i could go explain our situation and have some sort of understanding or maybe thinking they would want to retain our business would work with us on these extremely high fees.  since we where one day off on our math, we were now facing overdraft fees in the HUNDREDS of dollars and a negative balance.  They only repeated word for word their policies, finally I asked to speak to someone who could make actual decisions, I was given Gail Stachler's name.  Because i was unable to reach her or her assistant by phone, I drove to her office and spoke with her face to face.  She was only confused by what she saw on her computer screen and only offered ridiculous solutions as well as lecturing me on proper account management, all the while smiling!!  I said to her and pointed my finger at her, "How can you sit there and smile at me and say that?"  at that point she said, Sir, if you don't leave the building I will call the police!"  Confused and shocked I took a business card off her desk and quietly left the building.  I am outraged that your not even allowed to argue with a bank about their ridiculous fees or any situation.  I cant believe how i was treated.  My wife and I are both professionals  we have both started working part time jobs as well.  I find it humorous that I googled Gail Stachler and fifth third bank and this website was found and she is already in here.  I only hope that one of her superiors see's this and is persuaded disciplinary action, after all, NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW, right Gail?  Needless to say my wife and I are considering other banking options.  I hope you will as well.

Fees, Accountability and Smiling Faces

AUTHOR: TruthFinder - Rock Hill (United States of America)

Fees: Being charged with these types of fees is solely the responsibility of the banking customer. The bank is simply the keeper of your money. They aren’t responsible for your bills and how you manage your account. You freely admit that you overdrew your account - “we were off by one day thinking that a federal holiday would have postponed some items clearing”. So I ask you, have you done the same thing before? Have you ever been charged fees before and have them waived after you explained your situation as you were so prepared to do this time?

Accountability: I quote you again, “I only hope that one of her superiors see's this and is persuaded disciplinary action, after all, NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW”. Above the law I ask you? Who’s putting themselves above the law? The bank broke no laws, you broke the law and the fees are the price you had to pay. Just be thankful that you weren’t charged criminally, because writing bad checks is criminal.

Smiling Faces: That’s called customer service and self control. I’m sure that she really wanted to tell you more than to leave the premises when you started pointing you finger at her. Knowing how to deal with angry customers on a daily basis is an art that few have

In closing, you are venting here and slamming an individual and their employer’s policies for your own failure to manage you finances and pay your debt. To you considering other banking options, you might find this shocking but all the banks have overdraft fees.
