Yes, do that. Blame the President. While you're at it, blame your governor. Blame your senator, congressman and mayor. Blame your police. Blame your fire department. Blame your doctor and clergyman. Blame your third grade teacher. Blame the Arabs. Blame your tax collector. Yes my friend, BLAME everybody but heaven forbid you BLAME YOURSELF.
Who overdrafted the account? Who owns the account and agreed to the terms and conditions in regard to overdraft fees? Y-O-U!
Direct quote:..."I came home and checked my account balance on line". Direct cause of all this: "checked my account balance on line". You deposited money because YOU overdrafted the account. YOU spent money you didn't have and you expected you would be credited with the deposit immediately.
CAUSE 1. You DO NOT keep contemporaneous written records of your account activity. Instead, you do it the LAZY way, you check an online balance even though your bank, in its literature, told you IN ADVANCE to not count on that figure.
CAUSE 2. Direct quote:..."I went immediately to the bank and put the extra money in the account"...You expect the deposit to be credited at once, which the bank's literature will tell you doesn't happen. You put in money to cover the OVERDRAFTS after the fact!
SOLUTION 1. Maintain a WRITTEN RECORD of all your checking account usage including foreign ATM fees. Do the math, subtract the debit, after each entry. If YOU would have been doing this, YOU would have seen YOU were coming up to the end of the funds BEFORE YOU spent money YOU didn't have. Yes its work and "yes" its the cause of every one of these whiners who rack up NSF fees spending money they don't have.
SOLUTION 2. Read and understand your bank's deposit policy and DON'T spend money you don't have.
THE QUESTION. What's it going to be? Start being responsible and keeping accurate records or be like the rest and blame everyone but themselves for WHAT THEY DID? There is no question its your account and your money, right? Then doesn't it make just the slightest bit of common sense to know...really know...how much money you have? Handle money like an adult or handle it like a child. The choice is YOURS!
