My  Bank just ripped me off with extreme bank overcharges!

I have been recovering from bad times with crooks, fraud and identity theft the last few months and I  now am dealing with my own bank ripping me off, as well.

I was 3 days delayed to make my deposit  of $395  and the bank computer penalized me $362.50!

The fees on this delay was almost 100% in penalties and interest! ...........Isn't that illegal?

When you break down each small transaction by the dollar, as they do it's get real expensive!

On 2 of my $1.08 charges and less than $20....the bank computer charged me... $35.00 and up in penalties because 8  Visa transactions "came in a couple days early." The credit card companies don't even do this.

What has happen to me is so wrong. I have notified the Local TV station. They told me to try and resolve it as best I can with my bank first. I don't think they will do anything without your help.

I am currently unemployed, I  have enough problems going on  and because of this outrageous penalty  I now have  no money for food and can't pay my heating bill, now.  I have four kids to support.

I'm trying to work this out with my bank, before I go public. so far they have told me there is nothing they can do about this current situation.

US Bank ( North Valley reps)  hasve treated me fairly, till recently..and are only following format which congress is upset with  and the other banks with these extreme charges. I saw a report on KNTV News a couple nights ago about the rules they are going to change.

Can you help me with this current nightmare?

I need these charges reversed.

Jim C.

Jim,

I sympathize with your situation, especially being unemployed and all.

I'm not sure I'm understanding some of your report, though. If the bank is conducting a fraud investigation, and they find in your favor, you aren't responsible for the fraudulent charges or any fees that they caused. That is the law.

I'm also not understanding the comment about Visa card transactions "coming in early". How can they come in early? If you're using your debit card, you have to treat it so you have that amount in your account the second you use the card. Don't use your card and then try to rush to the bank and make a deposit. You're frankly asking for it. You said yourself, "....I was 3 days delayed to make my deposit of $395 and the bank computer penalized me $362.50!"

Needless to say, overdraft fees are high. I won't argue that. But, you have to be more vigilant in using that card. "Going public" as you say won't do you any good. You admitted that you used the debit card before you made your deposit and you were delayed in getting to the bank to compensate for your spending. Don't waste your time and money getting a lawyer or going to the news. At the risk of sounding unkind, the bank won this one. Learn from this error and move on.
