When I questioned Ryan, at Wachovia, about an NSF charge on a checking account, he couldn't see why it was there as the day by day balances indicated all funds were sufficient.  I asked him if he would credit it back to the account BUT, he would not as he said it wasn't the banks error...though he could not adequately explain the charge.

This was AFTER I told him that I was expecting a wire transfer into the account for $263,000.

I said I wanted to then close the account.  He tacked on an additional $6 fee for some crazy thing he tried to explain.

I'LL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM OR WELLS FARGO (THEY'RE CHANGING THEIR NAME TO W.G.)

Think about it, he wouldn't credit the $35 charge even though he knew Wachovia would NOT get the $263,000 cash wire in.  I wonder what the bank manager would have done.  At least Ryan got his power ego stroked...by himself.

one of two things. Your details don't give full story but I think it's one of two things.

NSF charges are for something returned unpaid. They are accessed the business day after the item was returned. Something returned unpaid Friday would show the fee accessed Monday night during processing.

1) You had a deposit credit after the item was returned. But your available balance on the business day the item presented wasn't enough to pay it. Or...

2) You had debit card holds that had the available balance lower than the item returned unpaid.

The $6 fee sounds like xcessive teller transactions or excessive calls to customer service. Again hard to tell for sure with your lack of details.

As far as the refund, unless it's bank error (such as a check processing against the wrong account) the most you might get is a portion of the fee. Several things considered including but not limited to: length of time account has been open; number if any of ODs in last 12 months; number if any of refunds in last 12 months and total customer/bank relationship (number of accounts, average balance, amount on deposit, etc). The reason for fees is pretty standard across the banks, it's just the individual fee amount that might change. Future possible business doesn't change any refund offered. By the way, there's a fee for wire transfers. Amount depends on whether transfer is from inside or outside US but there's a fee either way.
