For all of my fellow victims of Wachovia, I got a good one for you! My paycheck, from the company I've worked for the last 2 years, was direct deposited into my Wachovia acct. as it is every two weeks. I went to the branch to transfer the rent money into my landlords account that afternoon; no problem. Then on my way home, I got gas, went to the grocery store and stopped at the drug store to pick up my prescription. All debit card purchases against my directly deposited paycheck. I do this every two weeks. The following Monday, I was hit with $105 unavailable funds fee!!! We went to the bank to speak to the manager and she basically told us after an hour of going back and forth that my direct deposit paycheck, after 2 years, is suddenly not available until Saturday morning! The next day; not even a business day...WHAT?!?! So, I wrote to customer service in Charlotte thru my online banking...HOLY COW! I got a 3 page dissertation on the debit hold process and keeping my transactions written down in a checkbook and what to do if my direct deposit doesn't show up, etc. Of course, none of this advice had anything to do with my situation, but they credited my account with $42 as a "good faith gesture", WHATEVER Wachovia! You took $105 from me and I want the other $63 that's owed to me and I won't stop until I get it. $63 may not sound like a lot, but it's mine. It will almost fill my gas tank and if Wachovia does this to enough of their customers, it would significantly add to their bottom line. After all, the big shots need a fat severance package when the takeover is finalized and CITI gets rid of all these a**holes that have treated their customers like garbage all these years. I will update when this situation is resolved and Wachovia is a distant memory!

First of all, I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're having.
Question: what calendar date is your payday as established by your company? If the payday is on a Monday, then yes the direct deposit will be available on Saturday morning which is Monday's business day. The fees accessed were for three items that posted on Friday. One would have been the transfer. Has your company said anything about changing their payday?

For starters, the practices at Wachovia no different than the practices at Citibank but more than that - no employees are likely to be fired. To prove these fees in themselves amount to nothing, what happened to Wachovia should prove that out.
Next, much of this is your own fault. The fact something is Direct Deposited to your account does not mean it is available for you to use - period. You cannot be dependent on the paycheck deposited into your account to be used immediately.
Wachovia was kind to you to refund you $42 of your NSF's. That money was not yours - you forfeited that money through mismanagement of your account. The one thing I recommend to you is to stop using a debit card - that's the reason you're losing money through NSF's. Use your checking account for checks and cash withdrawls ONLY. If you keep a check register and stop with the debit card, I promise you the days of NSF's will be over - unless you do it purposely.
