I received a Wal-Mart Money Card from my sister as a gift for Christmas.
Little did she know that this was not a gift card! Gift cards are not linked to the customer's bank account.
The reloadable card is linked...a new account is created when the card is activated, and you cannot use your card until it's activated, which means you will need an account linked to the debit card.
I am writing this to warn others that the reloadable card will be used as a digital checking account, with service fees. Once you activate the card, you will create your account. The account is funded by the individual, for a $3 reload fee. That's right...you have to pay to add your own money! Also there is a $3 monthly fee just to use your card.
THIS IS NOT ADVERTISED ON THE PACKAGE! This is where the problem exists. Gift cards are great. This is not a gift card..so buyer beware! I think that Wal-Mart is taking advantage of people by presenting this card as a gift card, when it's actually a money-making bank card. I have called and cancelled my account.
I suggest anyone else who received the card to do the same thing.
