Editor & Chief Review, Inc. Armless magazine salesman drew my sympathy. Received about 4 magazines of my "3-year subscription" and just got a renewal notice stating my subscription is expired in less than a month. Naples, Florida

So an ARMLESS salesman came to my door a while back.  I have no problem telling the Mormons to beat it but an ARMLESS kid?  Come on... So this kid supposedly is selling magazines so he can earn enough points for prosthetic arms.  Ok, so of course I buy a couple magazines from a rather ratty brochure to the tune of $135.00.  I know I won't read the magazines but he told me it was tax deductible.  And did I mention... the guy doesn't have any arms for Christ's sake.

Anyways, right on the receipt it says "Reader's Digest (3 years)" - he wrote the receipt using both stubs.  It had been a while and I'd basically forgot about the whole transaction and one of the two magazines shows up.  Ok great.  About 4 magazines later, it's accompanied by a "renewal request".  I've yet to check but the first magazine came within the past 2 months.  The renewal letter says the subscription expires next month.  So no matter what, it's less than 6 months of the subscription for what was assumed to be 3 years.

Have yet to see anything fishy with the other one... yet.  I will probably try to call but reading the other reports, that doesn't seem to be fruitful and I'm a fairly busy person.  Chalk this one up to lessons learned.  No more trusting people at the door, not even armless kids.  I guess that just leaves the girl scouts - should I take preemptive action and ignore the girl scouts too (just in case?).  What if an armless girl scout comes to the door... THEN WHAT?!
