I am currently a District Sales Manager for Avon, and I could not agree more with the comment that was made.
Avon is definately a rip off, they expect their district sales managers to do nothing but recruit, recruit, recruit...we have quotas that we must meet and we have to have so many new avon reps appointed every campaign or we go through a "warning process" and eventually get fired, in addition, if we are recruiting this doesn't allow us the time to pay attention to our reps the way that we should and they deserve, yet, when a rep complains, they threaten our job about that too.
They are very convincing at the beginning(the company for women and how great they are, and how much they care about their employees and their families), but I have only been here for 1 year and I was doing great, I even received calls from upper management saying how great I was doing,,then I went on leave to have surgery, I was out for 8 weeks in which my district fell apart, and now, I am being blamed for things that happened while I was out.
It has been a terrible recovery for me because of my job. Someone needs to do something, they can not just get away with treating people this way!!!

i thought working for avon is a comission based company, like a contractor. how can they fire you? you own your own business.if you work, good, if not, than you'll just quit them, how can they fire you? do you mean like, they'll put you back to the lower level? or not the promotion? and yeah avon is a rip off company cuz they do have compition with them self, i don't understand who what to represent them. they open stores and even at trader village, they're everywhere! they don't stick to their blue print in the business plan. i sugesst everyone who're in avon to quit and look at other company who actually keep their promisses in enrichin your lives. and human are going to be human, some are going to be mean and nice, but i would thought the person who recruited you, you must like that person to decided to work as a team, and t5he person above it, have to treat you the same, it's like a family, grandma and mothera nd then daughter till you all grow up. oh whatever, go check out marykay. it's alot better, seriouly

Hi Bob;
I completely sympathize with you and others who have been told that they can no longer sell for Avon. I had only been a rep for 8 campaigns when I became ill and decided that I couldn't do this anymore. I tried to call all the people on my support team, but they kept telling me to call this one and that one. No one could help me out at all. So I sent in payments for the last campaign that I had ordered and thought I was done with it. I have never been contacted by my DM, ever. I don't even know who she is. Now I find out through e-mails that were sent to me that I have an order sitting at my DM's from two months ago and to please come and pick it up and pay the invoice. I tried to e-mail her and call her to let her know that I don't want the product, but, she never answers. The only thing Avon wants is money and they are trying to tell me that they never received my payment and want me to pay this invoice for the product that I don't want. I told them that I have proof that I have paid the initial invoice, but they don't care. I will never work as a rep for this company again, it cost me more money to be a rep than I made, mainly because my area is thoroughly saturated with reps and getting new customers was very difficult. Take care Bob and I wish you the best of luck!

Linh, yes Avon reps are business owners, however District Managers CAN get fired because they are actually employees of Avon.
I quit selling Avon months ago due to the fact that they compete with the reps. Avon's website offers deals and discounts that your average rep cannot afford to offer. Plus, the market is absolutely saturated with reps. It is nearly impossible to find customers since almost everyone in town is a rep, has a relative or coworker or friend that is a rep. They focus on recruiting more and more, eventually there will be no customers, since every customer is recruited to rep also.
Plus in my experience, the district managers are nearly impossible to get ahold of (can't blame them too much, though, since they are overworked) and Avon regularly places orders on hold for no apparent reason. When you find your order has been held, customer care cannot release it, they direct you to contact your manager, which usually takes days to get a response. With their sales campaigns being two weeks, often by the time your order has been released, you have lost a whole campaign worth of sales.
My mom sells Mary Kay and has never had any of the problems I had with Avon. I sell Tupperware now, and as far as direct sales, both of these are more rep-friendly companies than Avon is. Too bad, too, because the products Avon sells are great. But I won't deal with them anymore.

i dont think you should get mad at the company for your own stupid mistakes. if you decided to not say no, you decided to get all that stuff and couldnt return it, thats your own fault. couldnt u tell it was getting out of hand at a couple hundred dollars? but u let it get to the thousands. wow, real smart.

I became an Avon representative in August of 2008. It was only $10 to start your way to your "dreams." Well, I've never had such a nightmare! The first few months were great! I had customers ordering products left and right. Then I got lucky, or so I thought, and was asked to do two bazaars during the holiday seasons. I was thrilled! I ordered excess products I assumed would sell. Some did, most didn't, but being an Avon representative, I was under the impression that they offered a 100% money back guarantee, so what I didn't sell I could send back.
Many items didn't sell so I went into my back office on the Avon representative site to do what they call "EZ Returns." OK, yea, easy my ass! I did all of the packing slips and printed the shipping labels via UPS, which I had to pay to send the items back. I had UPS come to my house and pick up the items, which cost me another $3 per box, but at the time that was convenient for me so I did it.
The UPS driver came and put a sticker on each box and handed me the stickers for my records.
I stuck the stickers on each packing slip/RMA form I had for my records so I would know which tracking number went with which box.
To my dismay, Avon claimed they NEVER received some of the boxes, and they claimed that some of them didn't have all of the items that were due to be returned in them. I have my records proving they DID receive each and every box.
My district manager was NO HELP until I contacted HER manager. All I kept hearing from my district manager was how she had 750 plus representatives under her to take care of, and she made my problems sound petty. Then they both tried to get the ball rolling. Then my district manager informs me that everything has been taken care of and my balance will show the credits in a few days. Well, three weeks passed and still no change. Keep in mind she said everything was taken care of, I was credited my items sent, and I would see the credits on my balance due. When I contacted her to let her know that NOTHING had been changed, she then informed me ONCE AGAIN that she has over 750 representatives under her and it was hard to please them all. She then told me to go over ALL of my invoices from Avon to see where the problem was. After doing that, I still saw that I should only owe AVON approx. $100 which was for the last customer orders I received, and I have no problem paying that.
After checking online, I found Ripoffreport.com and found out that I am NOT the only one this has happened to. Also, in a Yahoo group I am a member of that is full of Avon representatives, several people have had the same problem.
Avon is now saying that I owe them almost $1400.00 for products they claim they didn't receive that I have proof they did. Needless to say, it will be a cold day in hell before they get that kind of money from me. I won't pay for something that is sitting in their warehouse or in someone else's office because they chose NOT to credit me correctly.
There are lots more people reporting avon problems at avonscam.com as well.

Hey,
I agree with you. RUN LIKE HELL, GET OUT OFF WHILE YOU'RE NOT TOO DEEP IN!!!
THIS IS WHAT I DID!!!
I am new to this game and I can see it is all wrong. I should have read Rip Off Report.com first. But I listened to a co-worker who has been doing Avon for only three months. She sounded optimistic. I signed up Feb. 26 2009 and have not made one DIME!!! ALTHOUGH, i MADE TWO SALES, I OWE IT TO AVON. IT IS A TOTAL WASTE OF TIME!!!!
I did not fail for the free "e" website so all I have to do now is pay back the $100 in sample products that I bought to help me start my "so-called - scammed business". I hate I fail for this and I hate that I pushed Avon products off to my friends. Avon has been around for a long time. I thought I knew the company well and its products, which I had used before in the past. I didn't know they were just NASTY CROOKS WHO EXPLOIT THEIR REPS.
Luckily, I didn't get everyone in my family involved. My brother warned me , though. Now I feel like the biggest FOOL!!!
I am sooooo ashamed of myself. I believed all of their lies. I wanted to be successful and they made a JOKE out of me for one month. I'll just have to go face to face with all the people that I spoke to about Avon and tell them the truth and tell them to go to RipOff Report .com to see ALL the other complaints about this so-called women friendly company. THEY ARE EXPLOITING WOMAN AND THEIR REPS. PLUS SOME OF THEIR SKIN PRODUCTS MAY NOT BE SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WE NEED TO JOIN TOGETHER AND BAN AVON AND EDUCATE ALL WOMEN!!!!!
IS THERE ANYONE OUT THERE WHO WILL BE WILLING TO HELP BRING DOWN AVON!!!????? AREN'T PEOPLE TIRED OF COMPANIES LIKE THIS USING AND ABUSING THE AMERICAN PEOPLE??????????????
AM I THE ONLY ONE??????!!!!!!
I JUST WANTED TO MAKE A DECENT LIVING, AND i AM MAD AS HELL ABOUT AVON PULLING TRICKS LIKE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AVON SEEMS TO CARE VERY LITTLE ABOUT THEIR REPS. THEY USE US TO SEEK OUT NEW CUSTOMERS, CONSTANTLY. YOU HAVE TO MAKE A SALE EVERY CAMPAIGN AND YOU NEED TO IN ORDER TO SEE A FEW DOLLARS HERE AND THERE EARNED.
BUT, WHY DO THEY HAVE TO PAY FOR OUR CUSTOMER SERVICE CALLS, WHY ARE OUR CALLS SENT OVERSEAS? AND WHY DO THEY ALLOW PEOPLE TO STILL GO ONLINE AND CALL THE TOLL FREE NUMBER AND ORDER AVON WITHOUT A REP?
WHY DO WE GET 20% ON THE DIAMOND ITEMS IN THE CAMPAIGNS? SHOULDN'T REPS BE GETTING AT LEAST 35% ON ALL ORDERS??? rEMEMBER, THE REPS ARE SEARCHING AND FOUNDING NEW CUSTOMERS, THAT'S WORK IN ITSELF.
CUSTOMERS CAN ORDER DIRECTLY AND CAN GET REFUNDS FOR CANCELLATIONS AND RETURNS, BUT WHEN A REP DOES IT ; THEY TREAT THEM LIKE WE ARE SCAMMING THEM. REPS PUSH THE AVON PRODUCTS AND BELIEVE ME THEY HAVE TO PUSH IT HARD TOO!!!!! wITH LOW PRICES OF ITEMS FROM $1.99 UP TO $15.99, I HAVE TO SELL A LOT OF STUFF TO SEE A PROFIT OF $100.OO. THE MONEY IS SLOW AND YOU NEED LOTS OF CUSTOMERS TO KEEP IT COMING IN. IF THE REPS FALL SHORT IN MAKING A SALE FOR TWO CAMPAIGNS (EVERY TWO WEEKS) THEN THE CUSTOMERS JUST CAN GO AROUND THE REP AND ORDER ONLINE OR DIRECT WITHOUT A REP AT ALL. BUT, YOU WOULD HAVE FOUND THE AVON CUSTOMER AND TURNED THEM ONTO THE PRODUCTS. ALL YOUR TIME AND ENERGY IS NOT COMPENSATED.
IF I LEAVE, A NEW REP WILL COME ALONG AND PLAY THE GAME UNTIL THEY CATCH ON, BUT AVON IS ALWAYS MAKING THE MONEY AND KEEPING THE OLD AND NEW CUSTOMERS THAT REPS HAVE FOUND, EVEN WHEN THE REPS QUIT PLAYING THE GAME.
