On May 22, 2010 at approximately 5:30 p.m. I was standing in my driveway.  Passing in front of my house was a young lady, who looked very dingy, wearing flip flops (her feet were filthy, like she was out all night), jeans and a dirty ski jacket (yes, a ski jacket...it was 75 degrees out).  Her hands were dirty and her fingernails chewed to the quick.

She had the gift of gab and approached my gate asking if I'd to "vote" for her.  She goes on to tell me that she's from Seattle ("where it rains 200 days out of the year...." she states) and groups of kids were travelling all over the United States (and the world, as she put it) to get points for trips and prizes.  She invited herself into my yard (so she could "use the table to write on"), and actually picked up my child, which I put a stop to.  She asked for water, and to use the phone, so she knew where to meet the rest of her group.  (She said when I asked, she was calling a cell phone, but later learn that she dialed a "239" area code - Florida).  She was trying to get info from me about our lives, etc.

She begins her spiel about the magazines, and after a few minutes, my husband came out and started questioning her and asked to see her "badge", which he proceeded to take inside and copy down her information.  She got very nervous when he did that, and started stammering saying the numbers on her identification were only for credit card information that she has to call in to the credit card agents.  Then began to write down several different numbers for him to call (although she scratched off the first two because "it was saturday and no one was there".)

I began to ask her if she expected me to give her money now, and of course, the very first option was cash, because a check or credit card will be held for 8 to 14 days, while processesing, but the cash will make delivery begin almost immediately.  My husband stoped me from ordering any magazines and told her politely, NO.  As soon as my husband said no, her whole demeanor changed and she got very testy and annoyed and was no longer the gabby, psuedo-friendly girl. She couldn't get out of there fast enough.  We were worried the whole evening that they would've come back.  Very scary that we were almost victims of this scam. What if it were worse?!?
