WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR IN THIS INDUSTRY Chris Boger wants consumers to know what to look out for..
There are a few things to look for when dealing with a residential remodeling company.
1. Make sure the company is fully licensed bonded and insured.
2. Go online and check the status with the Department of Labor and Industries. (If they have not paid there insurance and someone gets hurt on the jobsite that spells TROUBLE!
3. Make sure that the company is using their own W-2 Employees. Sub-Contractors get paid by the job. It is not their name being smeared in the mud when the job turns out bad.
4. Make sure that the company you are dealing with offers a product with a strong warranty. (Do research to make sure the products they use are going to last. You do not want to install a product on your home that you are going to have to replace 5 years from now.
5. Never Never Never pay the Company up front for the job. A solid company should never require more than a third of the total down for a deposit. If they ask for more than that it might be a warning sign that they are cash poor.
6. When picking a company, ask them if they service the products they sell of if the manufactures service the products. This makes a big difference. If they are responsible for serviceing their own products, any problem that comes up later will be addressed much more quickly than if you have to wait for a large manufacturer. (C&R Boger services all the products they sell.)
7. Make sure you feel good about the person you are buying from. If you do not feel 100% comfortable with your contractor then the trust gap will only widen.
