Remember the 100's of complaints about Closet World and its affiliates Closets by Design & Home Closets? Well, someone has finally gotten message. In the last few days all 3 Closet World affiliates:

Closets-By-Design
Home Closets

-have all had their license suspended.

The California State Contractors License Board suggests consumers do not use these company's until their license has been reinstated.

The violations include:

Excessive deposit
Abandonment of job
Non-ending sales promotion
Violation of Home Improvement contract
Violation of building and city ordinances

The timing of this is pretty interesting. The State of California took 8 months investigating hundreds of consumer complaints against these companies. Only a month ago, the state slapped them on the wrist, fined them $80,000 and put their licenses on probation for 2 years. Now only a few weeks later, the licenses have been suspended. The State knew all along about the pending class action law suit and literally hundreds of complaints. At that time, the state chose not to make CW make any restitution to their out of pocket customers.

They are recommending that no one do business with the Closet World companies until their licenses are reinstated. It will be interesting to see whether their companies will stay in operation or will continue to operate without licenses. It is illegal in California for a contractor to do business without a contractor's license, but then, CW has never been very ethical anyway.

One more thing. Rumor has it that CW has formed another company, Closet Dimensions, under which to do business. If it turns out that this CW in sheeps clothing, be very, very careful! Until you know for sure, check them out before doing business with them.
