I purchased my home in August 2008 that was built by KCH and have had non stop issues with them since that date. It started with some of the finishing touches on the house such as vent covers for the bathroom fans which weren't installed until late January 2009. After that, Hurricane Ike had caused a tree to fall onto the roof above my daughters room resulting in internal damage. We had KCH perform the repairs, thinking that since they built the house they could match paint colors and carpet colors.
After the first round of repairs, the sheetrock that had been soaked and was molding was not replaced. The second round of repairs found that there was a severe mismatch of joining edges on the sheetrock leaving open spaces between the joints. It took two more times for their contractors to come out before it was finally acceptable.
In June 2009 we noticed that our air conditioner was not cooling the house as it should so instead of dealing with KCH we contacted our own A/C contractor to come look at the system. The contractor found that the A/C had not been installed correctly or up to building codes. We contacted KCH about the problem and after 2 months had not received a response. I contacted them again and it eventually lead to us having to contact a lawyer after 8 months of KCH avoiding the issue.
At some point we posted negative reviews on Yahoo Reviews and that seemed to light a fire under Kyle MacDonnell to get this taken care of. It seemed that if we removed our negative posts he would stop avoiding the repairs and have someone come out immediately. Kyle agreed to allow the contractor that we contacted to perform the repairs. 2 more months have passed with Kyle not giving the contractor the go ahead to start repairs and has asked for material list so he can nickel and dime the job and this is after the contractor lowered his price from over $6,000 to $5,600 and now Kyle wants him to redo the system for $3,500.
After we posted our previous negative reviews, a lot of new reviews were posted that appear to not be from consumers who have used KCH but sound a lot like they were written as advertisements by KCH. Believe what you like but beware that if you do business with KCH and you need warranty work performed, and you will need warranty work performed, you will probably be contacting a lawyer like I am having to do again.
