One Time Construction, Inc. owned by Shay Fretwell was the single most disastrous experience of our lives.
We hired Shay Fretwell (AKA One Time Construction, Inc.) to build a 1,000sf detached garage.Not only did Shay Fretwell blatantly lie to get us to agree to a contract, he overbilled us on 3 different occasions (tried to submit invoices pertaining to his own personal project). Shay Fretwell also put together a change order 3 MONTHS after the fact and is now suing us because we we refuse to pay for an unapproved change order. The reality is that he did not properly review the plans when bidding the project and now he claims the plans called for more concrete than he originally thought so he put together a change order ($10,000) - 3 months after pouring the concrete.
Also, our agreement was to pay for the framing once it was completed and passed inspection. He came to my office the very day the inspector showed up and he asked me to write a check for the framing because he was low on funds and needed the money right away. I did so, to the tune of $18K, only to find out later it did not pass inspection and he walked off the project.
In addition, now that he has gone and we've continued with another contractor, we are forced to file a construction defect lawsuit against him because of so many problems. For example, he didn't allow for any expansion on a 1,000 sf slab so it's buckling everywhere, we had to completely remove the plumbing because he didn't use the proper size pipes (obviously didn't know and didn't verify code requirements), he built a retaining wall too far (I guess he can't read plans either) and now we are forced to place the sink next to the urinal (1 inch apart) and the urinal 1 inch from the corner - NICE and damn embarassing! I could go on and on, I have 8 pages worth of construction problems with this project, but you get the idea.
The whole project is basically a disaster AND he has the audacity to sue US for his unapproved changed order. Reality is, when he bid this project, he didn't even look at the plans. And, so MANY things were done NOT according to the plans.
Oh, it might be worth mentioning that he has no problem flaunting the fact that he carries a loaded weapon, and he already has multiple compaints on his license (we will be adding to that list soon). His license # is 784966. See for yourself.
