Union Energy Reliance Home Comfort Rip Off Water Heater Oshawa Ontario

My water heater started leaking water. I was away on business. I told my wife to call for replacement because we presently rent. Reliance sent out a Gas Technician to inspect the water heater. He indicated it was leaking and unrepairable, was installed in 2002.He arranged to have local contractor replace the unit.

The local contractor came at 4:30pm in the day, took a quick look and without doing any testing or chimmney internal inspection stated the chimmney was sub-standard and needed a lining. He then proceeded to shut off the gas to the rented water heater. This left us with no hot water and we had 28 days to get liner installed. I returned home and my wife was upset.

I immediately replaced the water heater with an electric one I purchased and installed. I removed the defective gas Reliance unit.I informed Reliance that we no longer need their water heater. They said they can pick up for $105.00 or I can deliver to address and pay $40.00

My questions is why do I have to pay anything? Reliance inspected and found it to be faulty.They have to remove it. The contractor was wrong in diagnosing the chimmney because I had a clay liner which he could have seen if he went outside and looked at top area of my chimmney, the clay liner extends 8" out of the chimmney.The liner is in good shape.

I told Reliance I would have the water heater by the curbside for pick up. They stated they still would charge me and I asked what for? I removed the unit and it now is on city property.The unit is still under factory warranty to Reliance.
