Rock Tops Inc. ripped off for $5000 in Michigan Wixom Michigan

We order granite for our kitchen on 12/13/08. The salesman supposedly was giving us a tremendous deal charging us $50/sq ft for granite which normally sold for $80 or more. In addition he threw in ogee edge treatments which normally would cost about $800 for the amount of edges we had. He asked for an immediate deposit of half the total which amounted to $2394.50. My wife used a visa debit card for the deposit.

The next step in the process was for someone to come out to the house to measure. He said we were lucky that he could get someone there the following Monday, two days later. After the measuring was completed, the technician asked for the balance of the purchase price. I paid by check.

We were unsure of whether we wanted full backsplashes or just the standard 4 inch splashes, so the technician told me to contact our salesman the following afternoon to get a price for the full backsplashes. I called the salesman the following afternoon, and he indicated he hadn't been able to get to our paperwork yet and that I should call back the next day, which I did. Still he had not had a chance to review our measurements and give us a quote for the full backsplashes. Tried calling the following day and still he gave me the run-around.

By now it was the Friday before Xmas and I called again, this time no answer. I drove to the store and the door was locked and no sign of anyone inside. I have been calling everyday since then and no answer - just an answering machine. It is now Dec 30 and I called again and again no answer.

Now concerned that something was wrong, I began to search the internet and found this website which indicated that basically the company has gone bankrupt and the doors have been locked and employees sent home. Of course they cashed my check so unless I get anything back as a result of bankruptcy filing, I'm out a lot of money.
