Velcro: As far as I can tell the product it self is OK but the glue on the back side of the product is not strong enough for the product. I bought one box at a store and it did not hold up ( glue on back side ) to either my curtains or my tent. So then I went to another store and got a second box and it was no better. Oh yes I did try to take the boxes back and both store gave me a hassle, but I finale did get my money back. I suggest not to waste time buying Velcro with glue on the back cause it is no good.

The product does work..but has it's limitations..

AUTHOR: Ronny g - North hollywood (USA)

I do not work for velcro...but I do use the product.

First off...was the product genuine Velcro brand? If so..it should say 3M on the package..they make the highest quality glues on the market for this purpose.

Now regardless of if it was 3M..or a knockoff..you are correct in stating the velcro holds together well..but the sticky glue side does not always hold.

That is not a ripoff...and not velcros fault. No glue will stick to every surface known to man..and I am sure 3M makes no promise of this.

I use it often for automotive purposes. The surface must be clean and scuffed up for the glue to adhere for any length of time.

If the surface had any armorall or similar applied to it..this must be completely removed for the glue to adhere.

I first use an antistatic cleaner....then isopropyl alcohol, then lightly scuff the mounting surface with fine sandpaper or emery cloth. Then my "rule of thumb" is to apply 30 lbs of pressure..for 30 seconds. If it is cold..I will heat the glue side of the velcro with a lighter...and sometimes may have to use a heat gun to warm the surface as well..if it is too cold..the glue is will not be tacky enough to grip correctly.

Now I do not know the exact surface material or condition you were trying to use the velcro for..but if you didn't use the procedure as I described..of course the glue will not stick well..if at all.

Also to note..if you were trying to stick the velcro to any kind of fabric..it is a fail. In that case you need to either sew the velcro on..or staple it..the glue will usually not adhere to fabric very well..it is designed to stick to clean solid surfaces only.

I left a link below so you can take a look at velcro "sew on" type...which may be much better suited if you are using this for a tent. This type is also often used in the automotive field for convertible tops..so it does stand the test of time and wind abuse.

You may need to copy and paste it into the browser if it doesn't appear as a link.
