We were informed last year that we had a sinkhole under our new home that we purchased a few years ago. As you can imagine or family were devasted by the news. We went thru the tedious process of having our home stabilized and making it safe for our family again.
We decided that we would replace the sliding glass doors with French doors since we were having the tile replaced by our insurrance company. We attended the Home show here in Tampa hoping to get some leads. We came home with 3-4 leads and did some research on the companies. A lot of them didn't have a good track record or were too new to deal with.
We decided on Weather Tite Windows here in Tampa. They were a national chain with their home office in Ohio. They have been around since the early 90's and were awarded the BBB torch Award. Sounded great!
Their salesman came out on 06/22/2009 and gave us his presentation. He suggested Neuma Doors for our application. We agreed that was exactly what we were looking for, and we copied the page out of his catalog for future reference. He then proceeed to write us up a quote, the price installed would be $1600.00, we explained to him that we wanted to wait a few months to be certain the the ground under our house was completely stabilized before making that kind of investment.
On 08/09/2009 he returned to our home and we drew up a purchase agreement for the doors we previously discussed. He showed us the same catalog, and even wrote the page number (21)so there would be no mistakes on what we wanted. He did this for every detail the handles, locks, sidelights etc were all referenced to by page number. We were impressed with his attention to detail. The price was still $1600.00, the same price that was agreed upon 2 months earlier.
A week later their installer came out and measured the opening and again confirmed the model and type of door that we ordered. He asked us how we wanted our sidelights etc. and said the doors should be here in about 5 weeks.
On 09/09/2009 almost a month after we signed our contract and gave them our deposit we were informed that they made a mistake and that the door would be close to $3200.00. This was DOUBLE the price that we were told twice, once back in June and then again in August when we signed on the dotted line and gave them our hard earned money.
I receive a call on 09/10/2009 from the salesman telling me that they could get me in a CHEAPER door for around $2200.00.
Gotta love bait and switch.
I said forget it and just refund my deposit. Now we are dead in the water, we can't finish the tile on the other side until we have a door. I'm kinda of stuck but maybe this would be warning to anyone else considering this company. Even if they give it to you in writing it doesn't mean much.
