But most companies charge a fee for transferring service.
I did not know about this until my husband and I moved from our apartment into a house about 3 blocks away.
When I was calling the companies to transfer service over, (and I only had 3 to transfer cable, electric, phone.) All three told me that there was an extra charge for transferring the service.
I could understand the cable and phone guys. But the electric was on through the rental place already and all they had to do was change it over from the rental place to my name. Why the extra fee?
At least they did have a reason for you, because someone had to come out and physically hook up the line.

But you're wrong. Comcast advertises and offers free relocation services to keep your business. The reason they require a tech on site is because they developed a technology that is inefficient to setup. There is no reason "we" need to pay for "their" cost of operations since we already pay them a bill. which feeds their profits The truth is they scam when they can just as most companies do. They calculate the probability that customers like you will be passive enough to just pay the undisclosed fee. Its also worth it for them to steel funds out of your account because the loss of pissed off customers is a relative loss to the money they gain by stealing. Have you ever seen the info-mercials at 3am in the morning for some of these companies? They rely on the fact that most people are too stupid and lazy to send back the broken/defective product they buy so they offer free refunds. Then charge you an astronomical shipping fee. Or they say one thing about their services and your bill refund and do another, hoping you will fulfill the odds that; like most Americans, you're too stupid and lazy to call them on their crimes. I have pasted a perfect example of how they work below ( a chat session with comcast). Notice that they keep waffling on where my account credit went. First they say it was a transfer fee, then they say they don't have transfer fees. Then they say they never disconnected service after they sent me a bloody confirmation. They lie to no end, trying to keep the money they stole. There is a classaction lawsuit in development against comcast for this very reason. I spent 1.5 hours with them, trying to recover a credit they promised and failed to pay. Please read their "circle talk".

Mitchell(Thu Apr 30 2009 08:22:55 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Actually there is a fee for the transfer but since you are being promised that there is no fee for transfer then I will be free.

You're most welcome Justin.
Mitchell(Thu Apr 30 2009 08:25:41 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Justin, may I know how much is the amount you paid?
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 05:26:41 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Isn't that in the records?
Mitchell(Thu Apr 30 2009 08:26:28 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
it's $172, is that correct?
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 05:26:49 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Sounds right
Mitchell(Thu Apr 30 2009 08:27:38 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Because that amount that you paid is for the month of March and the cycle date is from March 16 to April 15.
Mitchell(Thu Apr 30 2009 08:28:23 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
And when you requested to transfer your service to a new address the transfer was already remove from your account and you are not charge for anothing then.
Mitchell(Thu Apr 30 2009 08:28:43 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
I can see here in your previous account that you have a $0.00 amount for the balance due.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 05:28:58 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
And I used less than half of the service. Making sense now?
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 05:29:19 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Im glad you found the problem.
Mitchell(Thu Apr 30 2009 08:30:14 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
and the transfer for $82 has been already reverse from your billing statement.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 05:31:14 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
I dont understand your English
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 05:31:27 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
You're saying you are now crediting the account?
Mitchell(Thu Apr 30 2009 08:31:46 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
I mean the transfer fee amount to $82 has been remove already from your charges.
Mitchell(Thu Apr 30 2009 08:32:25 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
What I mean is that, you are no longer charge for any transfer fee since it was already remove from your account.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 05:33:17 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Still not understanding. Did you credit my account just now?
Mitchell(Thu Apr 30 2009 08:33:57 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
No. I did not credit your amount, but our billing department remove it from bill.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 05:34:31 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
What is my current balance?
Mitchell(Thu Apr 30 2009 08:35:09 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Current balance $96
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 05:35:33 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Is your manager available?
Mitchell(Thu Apr 30 2009 08:36:04 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
They are already out Justin.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 05:36:54 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>

Mitchell(Thu Apr 30 2009 08:37:31 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Let me check if our supervisor is available.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 05:43:50 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Anyone there?
Mitchell(Thu Apr 30 2009 08:44:02 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Yes, Justin, my supervisor will be with you in a while.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 05:44:24 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Thanks Mitchell
Mitchell(Thu Apr 30 2009 08:44:54 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>

Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 05:47:11 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
its about comcast
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 05:47:22 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
doesn't get more relative than that.
Mitchell(Thu Apr 30 2009 08:48:35 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
I will check on that site.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 05:50:23 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Do you know what time this support sessions started?
Mitchell(Thu Apr 30 2009 08:50:35 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>

Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 05:50:56 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>

Mitchell(Thu Apr 30 2009 08:50:47 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>

You're doing your best.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 05:52:01 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Its sad that your company offers free moving services. Promises refund for for services you pay for at an address you are moving from. Then keeps the money.
Mitchell(Thu Apr 30 2009 08:51:52 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
she is having a meeting but she is almost done.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 05:52:49 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
I hope they're discussing transfer fees
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 08:52:45 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Hi, Justin. Let me just review your concern.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 05:53:17 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Hi Anna. Let me know what you think after you read the chat history
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 08:54:46 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Yes, will do.
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:00:51 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Hi, Justin
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:01:26 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
So in short. I was told I would have a credit to my account. Your sales reps declare there is no setup fees. When you subtract the dollars I paid for services I never used in March, you get a credit amount. Strangely, someone decided to call it a "transfer fee". Please tell me how a transfer fee (which was never discussed as I was promised that moving is easy and doesn't cost me anything) ends up being the same amount.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:02:50 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Anna. Do you understand my dissatisfaction?
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:02:47 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
I understand.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:03:06 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Thanks
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:03:19 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Actually there is no transfer fee since you have free installation charges for the services.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:03:57 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
So what happened?
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:04:21 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
to my $82?
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:04:15 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
The credit that you are talking about is from the previous account. Let me just verify if you have paid the last bill of your old account.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:05:02 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Yes I did. On March 14 from XXXXXXXXX
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:05:41 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
May I know what is the total amount that you paid?
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:06:12 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
You didn't read the chat history did you, Anna?
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:06:29 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
$172
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:06:38 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:06:54 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
I did but I have checked your old and new account as well. And I don't want to keep you waiting.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:07:19 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
OK. Thanks
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:07:41 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Okay, normally for transfer of services, any charges and overpaid amounts will also be transferred to the new account.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:08:24 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Yep. Just as I was promised
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:08:30 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
But never received the funds
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:08:36 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Let me double check your amount.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:08:55 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Maybe the rep I spoke with went to Vegas with it
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:08:41 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
account
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:09:16 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Hopefully not.lol
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:09:29 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Hang on a bit.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:09:58 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Been here for an hour. Not going anywhere. Dont worry
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:13:14 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Okay, here is the problem Justin. The last amount you paid actually covered only for March 16- April 15. However, you still have the last bill which was for $156.40 covering April 16- May 15.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:13:58 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
NO!!!
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:13:53 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
The process for your transfer was done last April 27 which was part of cycle April 16-May 15
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:14:10 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
I disconnected service
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:14:19 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Thats why you assigned me with a new account
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:14:32 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Yes, your account was disconnected last April 27.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:15:06 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
April 27th was yesterday.
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:15:02 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>

are you crazy?
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:15:19 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
that was the completion of the disconnection
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:15:57 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
I have a confirmation for disconnect on March 31
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:15:46 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Sorry for that.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:16:18 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Why would you think I can live in two places at once?
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:16:21 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Wow
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:16:08 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Yes, that is correct.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:16:35 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Incredible
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:16:37 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
March 31 was the date it was processed
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:17:05 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
So?
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:17:11 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Whats the problem?
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:17:35 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
I'm counting on you Anna
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:17:21 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Every charges after that was credited meaning you do not have any balance.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:17:57 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
I love you Anna. Thanks for seeing my pain.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:18:03 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
before I leave
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:18:01 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
That was for the old bill
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:18:10 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
or the old account when you left the address
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:18:47 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
So do I have a balance currently?
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:19:57 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Do I have a balance currently?
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:20:49 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
What we can do in your account is to have a request for the $82 that did not show in your new account.
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:21:21 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Credit request since you disconnected last March 30 and you were able to pay for the entire cycle.
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:21:36 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
Where did the $82 credit go?
Justin_(Thu Apr 30 2009 06:22:10 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
I paid 172 for March 15-April 15
Anna(Thu Apr 30 2009 09:22:05 GMT-0700 (Pacific Daylight Time))>
It did not show yet in the account. However, I will be making a credit on your account for that amount.

If the original contract states the customer is responsible for paying an additional fee, they are. Today's advertising has nothing to do with the contract that the OP signed years ago.

I am a current employee of Comcast, and yes we do charge reconnect fees.. So do utility companies (at least most do), phone companies, etc.. Any internet company is going to charge to move services from one residence to another.. Most of the time the outlet must be activated for internet or digital tv service, so that's where the charge comes from. Techs do not get bonus checks for each service installed.. If you had a subcontractor at your home, then you are paying for that subcontractor (because they bill us). Most of the time, subcontractors have to come to the home because they are the people that climb the poles to untrap the lines or crawl in the attic or basement etc. So you should probably pay the fee because everyone will charge to hook up a new home.

although comcast and share no real love for one another and i do not agree with many of there policies how do you believe a company pays its employees by charging fee's to it's customers otherwise every single job on earth would be comissioned based
i would like to see the guy who is complaining to go to a hair salon or other service related business and say since your already paying your staff by the hour i should get my service for free this would be about the same case scenario.
this person does not live in the real world and has no common sense but i wish him luck anyway.

Most all companies charge a connect/reconnect and or a transfer fee, electric, water, etc. I suggest reading the terms of service agreement. Also you do have a cancelation claus in the agreement. Have you read these prior to transfering your services ? Did you ask what fees would be involved Before you requested the transfer of services ? Hope this helps
