Mediacom Over Charging me after I cancel cable. Dubuque Iowa

After having Cable through Mediacom, It was time for me to move out of my apartment. I called Mediacom to let them know I was going to be stoping my cable on August 31st. They took note of it and I thought nothing of it. Later that month I received a bill that was my billing from August 12 to September 11th. The bill was for 32.55. This was my usual monthly bill.
So I called Mediacom and they told me that they had already sent that bill out when I told them to stop my service on august 31st and that I should ignore that bill and wait for a new corrected one that was prorated from August 12 to August 31st. So a month later I received a bill for the entire month of august and september as if I had continued my service.
So I called again and the guy relized the mistake and again said he would sent out a new bill and to be looking out for it. Once again a 3rd bill with 3 months of charges shows up as if I still had service at my old place. So I called again and he again said he corrected it and would send me a bill. Well, to my suprise I received a letter from collections saying I had an overdue bill that needed to be paid.
So I went to the center in town here and confronted the lady at the front desk who said that the bill had been corrected from August 12 to August 31st and sent to collections cause it was 90 days late and they felt I wasn't going to pay it (kinda hard when you are told to continue waiting on the next bill). So I asked her what the final bill was so I could finally pay it.
She said that their was a $6.50 charge for having to send it to collections, and I told them to bad, it was their faults for delaying me and sending it to collections and I didn't fell I should be responsible for paying for that fee. So she took that charge off and said the final bill was 39.20. 6.65 more than my normal bill. I asked why this was and some how Mediacom raised my bill to 44.20 for august. Some confusing made up numbers they added to make me pay more.
So I tried to explain to her that even if it was 44.20, the bill was prorated from August 12 to September 11 to August 12th to August 31st. So since I used 20 days out of 31 days, I used 65% of the month. I then (after showing it to her on a calculator) said that the bill should then be 28.73 not 39.20. She then had me call a billing center where I repeated this information to several people.
Finally I was given to a Supervisor who wouldn't talk to me personally, but had it relayed to me from a women who apperently didn't understand math. She avoided the fact that her math was flawed and kept saying, "I'll remove the 6.50 charge from collections if you pay 39.20 now and she said that if it was her she'd take that deal". Acting as if all this was my fault and I was trying to screw mediacom over.
I had them send me a bill with the exact numbers they used for the prorating, and I plan to call a supervisor and question where they got each number. I am currently paying 60 dollars with mediacom a month here at my new place, and plan to be here for 10 more months. So if mediacom wants to cheap me out of almost 20 dollars I'll end my service and cheap them out 600 dollars. Mediacom is a good service, but beware and check your final bill to make sure your not getting screwed over.

Ok, so I have spoken to several people with great frustration. So I'll start from where I left off. I got the copy of the previous bills that I requested from mediacom. After looking at it I was so confused I didn't even want to try and figure out were their numbers came from. Some of the charges were either different from the previous month or didn't even exist.
So I ended up calling a customer service representive. I can't remember what her name was, but at first she seemed to be helpful but couldn't understand where I was getting why I felt I should only pay 65 percent of the month (I used 20 out or 31 days: 20 divided by 31 is 65 percent.) It seemed self-explanitary to me. She kept mentioning how they took charges off on October and September of like 125 dollars or something.
I asked her what October and september had to do with this, if they charged me for it and I moved out august 31st, shouldn't they remove 100 percent of the next two bills they charged me for. Leaving only the 44.65 for August 12-september 11. I then said which brings us back to 65 percent of 44.65 is not 39.20. She asked me several times how much I felt mediacom owed me as if I was gonna change my anwser to something zero or something less.
She would not listen or even try to understand what I was saying and actually called me an Idiot (Probably cause I proved the math to her and she relized I might be right) and later on after repeating the same conversation over about 3 times she hung up on me. A real way to solve a problem huh. I then called back and reached a gentelmen in which I explained what had just happened and then explained my situation.
He then told me he was going to put me on hold and go through every number in the bills to figure out how mediacom came to 39.20. It took about 15 minutes, but this was fine with me expecially concidering he came back and said, "I now see what your talking about". He said an error had been made and in fact for some reason they had owed me 37 some dollars. Someone had messed up and told me I owed 39.20.
So he said I would be getting a check for 37 some dollars and another for the 39.20 in 4-8 weeks. So hopefully this situation has been resolved. I have to say to people though, do the math on your bills. I'm not saying they were trying to screw me over, but it sure seemed that way. As if they seemed like I was going to back down over 12 dollars, but it was more that the 12 dollars, it was the whole issue of treating me as if I was an idiot and wouldn't catch it.
Again, hopefully this issue has been solved. I would like responses on if people felt I handeled this situation right or if their were other ways to solve these problems.

Well, it's been about 4 months now, (boy how the time flies) and yet no check from mediacom. Even better there service has been worse. They have not sent me a bill in the last 3 months until now and I continued sending them a check as normal. However when I recieved this months bill it is saying I owe late fees. Plus I have found that the price the representitive quoted to me when I got the cable was not correct. When he quoted it to me he said it with taxes came out to a grand total of 59.22. Well turns out that doesn't include taxs. Yet another lie to my face. I can't believe this company would try and screw there customers over this many times. I hate the fact that they are the only cable I can get (Cause I'm not allowed satilite.). I however have started to believe that maybe not having them would be more worth while than having them. Caution this company and check the things they do. They will try to sneak out every penny from you.
