In the dead of night (3 am this morning) many of my regularly watched channels were now not showing anything but this: "An IO Digital Cable Box is now required to view this channel". WTH?!?!?!?!?

Channels 15 - 28 - 46 - 51 - 57 - 58 - 63 - 66 - 73 all show the above statement. Other channels that I used to get are now just electronic snow.

Since my choice of stations has dropped considerably I expect my bill to also drop but you know that that will never happen.

I've been wanting to get rid of Cablevision for some time now and they have just dropped the last straw onto this camels' back.

Your cable company is apparently going all digital, which is a good thing. And I am sure they have been advising all of their customers of this fact for some time now, as most cable companies are doing this in order to provide clearer signals and to free up bandwidth for the HD channels. Most cable companies are giving the set top digital boxes at no extra charge to their customers. Call customer service and ask. It beats sitting in the dark and pouting.

"Does the DTV transition affect TV sets that are connected to cable services?

No. If you subscribe to cable service, the DTV transition should not affect any TV sets that are connected to your cable services. The DTV transition applies only to full-power broadcast television stations – stations that use the public airwaves to transmit their programming to viewers through a broadcast antenna."

I have not been notified of any FREE digital set-top box. I've known about the digital transition since the beginning of this scam. This is just another way Cablevision wants to f___ over the consumer once again.

I believe it's time to turn off the boob tube and just rent the DVDs of the shows that I like to watch. Or better yet, just watch them on my HD 24" screen of my Mac.

The Cablevision that I've been dealing with for almost a quarter of a century will NEVER let an opportunity like this pass by without screwing over the customer. "giving the set top digital boxes at no extra charge to their customers".....now that's almost funny if it weren't such a stupid statement. Apparently you do not know or deal with the Cablevision that I have the displeasure of dealing with.

I will demand a drop in the monthly fees for the drop of channels....fair enough, right? Sure is in my book.

I will content myself with watching what little TV I watch by watching it on my HD 24" Intel Mac. I can even record the stuff and burn it to DVDs for future viewing. And what I do not get on the Mac I will rent the DVDs of the shows that I enjoy.

Cablevision is not getting a cent more out of me. Bad enough that I've been raped by them for so many years.....there's no way I will let them now give it to me up the arse.

I have friends at the FCC and will talk with them about this situation.

Digital transition

The digital transition of Feb. 2009 has absolutely nothing to do with your cable company going " all digital ". What that means is : Your cable company, in order to free up bandwidth, may be replacing the analog channels with digital channels, which take up less bandwidth, thereby providing room for MORE channels on the cable system. If you see analog channels ( those in the range from about 2 - 99 on the cable system ) disappearing, that is probably what is happening. And just because YOU don't know about the STBs, doesn't mean it isn't happening, as MOST cable companies are now doing this. However, you must call them in order to get one. A digital set top box will give you a better picture and more channels. As I said, call your cable company and check on it.
