I placed an order at Fumfie.com for a Sony HDR-XR150 120GB HDD camcorder for $489 and added a Starter Kit for $89.99 as advertised. I also chose the free shipping option so when I checked out the total showed $578.99. The first strange thing was that once you press the "place the order" buttom you dont get an itemized invoice or confirmation page but only get a "Thank you for shopping at Fumfie" message. Then they left me a voice message at my phone asking me to call back in order to process the order (the caller identified himself as Chris at extention 229). So I did. Now Chris says the total was actually $628.99 instead of $578.99 because there was a "mandatory insurance charge" of $50. I said not this was not disclosed at the time of the order and I did believe this was legal for them to do that. He started yelling at me with something like "we only make $18 on this camera blah blah". Well, if they want to make more money they could certainly raise the price but not by adding hidden charges after the customer has alread placed the order. So I told him to cancel the order and he said OK and then just slammed the phone. They e-mailed me a "confirmation of order" after I placed the order in which there was no order number or list of items other than asking me to call back. A red flag already. I have just e-mailed them now asking them to e-mail me a confirmation of cancellation. I dont want to buy from a site like this because I dont feel any confidence in them after this experience. I also dont think their practice is legal/legitimate.
