I had just posted my car on craigslist, when someone contacted me an hour later saying he wanted to come over and buy my car. He came over right away, and got out of his car with a girl. He handed me really sad photocopy of a sorry looking application. It requested a VIN number and for me to put down my personal information. He said that after filling out this piece of paper, that magically all the liability would be transferred to him. The funniest part is that when they got out of the car, he only sat inside my car for about 30 seconds before saying he'd take it. I was like, "Dude, there is no way you are driving my car off and leaving me with this lousy piece of paper." He got upset with me and showed me that he had his driver's license photocopied onto the bottom so that I knew exactly who he way. The license said his name was Tom Jones, which was laughable because he was as Indian as the day is long! Right down to the hand gesticulations. The girl was white, and she had this doe-eyed appearance, which quickly soured when I told them they weren't going to be driving my car away unless I had money in my pocket. Obviously, they had all sorts of reasons that they needed the car, and that no one would be driving it because it would be in their storage facility, but then that they needed to have it for people to see it to buy it, but then that they already had someone who wanted to buy it (in only 2 hours! with 700 other cars posted on craigslist that day!). They got all mad and stormed off, even though I was being quite polite! I felt like a more naive person might have succumbed to their pressure, because they were real con-artists. Fairly weird confrontation, and doubtless their names and phones numbers will be changed very soon. But just figured I'd post this and contribute my experience with a scammer.
