YOU signed a contract to make each payment on time. There are ZERO provisions for an exception to this unless your heart stops beating! They want their money! Because YOU weren't paying, they began collections efforts. What exactly do you expect them to do??? You want to "spread the word"? What word? The word they will enforce contract collections provisions when YOU want to play deadbeat? Where on earth do you come up with this mentality making payments is optional? No, I don't work for them.

What you described would happen with any of the bottom tier subprime lenders. Hard to call it a ripoff, though. They only started bothering you when you did not make the payments as you agreed to do. Because they are in the business of lending thousands to people who are likely to stiff them (as you did), their collection practices are aggressive. That seems to be the only thing that works with people who have a casual attitude about their debts.
" I still owe them now for what the insurance didn't cover because they ripped me off on the price of the car as well. "
How did that happen? I assume that there was a contract signed and you agreed to the price, right? If you're saying that you didn't bother to research the value of the car before you bought it, that's on you.
Nothing you described in your post is unique to this lender or car dealer.

"they ripped me off on the price of the car"
Are they attempting to collect more for the car than the amount that was agreed on?

Two months after buying the car you "ran into a little financial troubles."
Then the "payments came at a bad time, usually the week you didn't get paid."
Next, you continue to make late payments.
Your next little gem states "I pay them when I am able to make the payment and they do not like it."
Now you're angry because they want
you to live up to
your contractual agreement to pay what
you owe on time every time....wow, I can see how
you would consider that unfair and uncaring.
You also blamed them for you having to pay repairs on your car because you didn't have adequate insurance. Is there ANYTHING, in you opinion, they did right?
I've got sad news for you...ANY lender would go after you with your lousy payment history.
It's not surprising you have to borrow from this type of lender NOBODY ELSE would even consider loaning you the price of a cup of coffee.
Is there some valid reason why you think the world owes you a living?

I stated that when I was late by a day they would shut off my car when I've never been late, they threatened and harrassed me for being 2 days late and refused to work with me, they called friends and family that they are legally not allowed to contact. What I'm saying is that they not only refuse to work with anyone but they broke the law. The dude that called me a deadbeat, I problably work harder than you do so don't come on here acting like you're mr. Know it all. Secondly, if you don't agree that this company is a ripoff or doing illegal activities then don't bother with comments. Thanks.
P.S. yes I've taken legal action before anyone tries and comment against that. It was simply a report for people in my area who have also dealt with them.

Are you really 'saying' that no one should enter a rebuttal unless they agree with you? This is a public forum and you don't get to choose who responds or what they can say.
The responses you have received so far have been on target. Bottom line is that you have to pay your bills on time, every time or suffer the consequences.

So then, you can't or won't pay your bills on time because you don't have two nickles to rub together yet you've "started legal action"? Funny! Ha ha ha! I bet you have a credit score in the 800's also and are a college graduate to boot! But in the event Mr. Mensa you win your "legal action" you contact me. I'll fly you down here in my MU-2 and you'll be the star attraction at our quarterly Bar Association conference!

The OPs sense of entitlement here flabbergasts me, but given the same attitude I've read in many other reports, I don't know why it would.
Sir, if you need a used car dealer to "tell" you how credit worthy you are, you've already answered your question - YOU'RE NOT!
Instead of a 2006 Fusion, you ought to have been driving a 1991 compact worth a few hundred bucks.
They broke laws by calling all your family? Hardly, I'm sure. Annoying and obnoxious, yeah. But probably perfectly legal unless they continue to call anyone who's requested they do not.
How hard you work, or think you work, is neither here nor there. You are clearly an irresponsible high credit default risk and one of few posters here who I actually hope gets their pay garnished to pay his debts.
I normally loathe such car dealers and finance companies, but some of their "victims" deserve every bit of aggravation these companies end up giving them. The proof is in the attitude they take towards their obligations.
Just for laughs, who's fault was the accident, and was the wonderful 2006 Fusion a total loss?
Please give us all the juicy details.

This is company is a ripoff and it has nothing to do with people not paying bills. When u first get a car from them they dont tell you the actual price of the car. They say that there isnt an actual price because its a car u drive for two years to rebuild your credit. They use a device to cut off your car off when it isnt paid on the exact day. How can a 10 year old vehicle with a slipping transmission and burnt melted wires cost $12000??? Thats a bunch of crap! People shouldnt just what they dont know...A rip off is a rip off AND they are some crooks!!

To Gordon, the latest poster, what you stated about not knowing the price for two years is impossible to believe.
What is the price in the written contract you signed? There must be a written agreement you sign detailing the price and the terms of repayment. If you signed it without reading it - then that is your problem. Never listen to the F&I guy tell you the terms. Read them for yourself before you sign anything.
If you do not have an actual price in the contract, then why did you sign it?
You are the person that has to protect yourself. When you see a contract that has outrageous terms or price - don't sign it! If you are getting pressured by the car dealer to sign it, then get up and walk out.
It's up to you to read and understand any agreement before you sign it. Once you realize this, things will be much better for you.

I can admit being irresponsible for not looking deep into the contract. The reason for this is being inexperienced with "financing" a car, especially being so young at the time. I was in a position where I was desperate and needed a car immediately but didnt have the finances to buy one and didnt have the credit to finance one. I was in college at the time and was working so it was a time where I desperately needed transportation. They sounded like a good place to rebuild your credit and I was happy to be getting a car. I wouldnt have had an issue paying for the car had it not been a lemon. For $400 a month, the car should have been at least driveable. Once the car is proven to be a lemon, you would think that the dealership would at least be willing to allow another vehicle or at least allow you to return it. Bottom line, the place sells people with credit issues bad cars. I had the car for maybe 6 months. The trans was slipping so I stopped driving it and now I am paying $11000 for a car that was auctions for $1500. And with the interest fees, it will takes many years to pay it off. Everyone at some point makes bad decisions especially when they're young but that doesnt take away the fact that these people are getting over by taking advantage of people and its sad.

Regardless of what the initial poster did in this case I think that other consumers should simply look at the way that Gateway is responding to the complaints about them on this board. This is a public format and the rudeness on the part of Gateway Financial is quite visible. There are plenty of corporations that have disagreements with their customers no matter what their business is, but this level of hostility by a company is completely uncalled for. It really is possible for the representatives at Gateway Financial to get their point across without being insulting to the individual and based on the number of posts I have read regarding Gateway Financial and Right Way Automotive it seems impossible for them to respond to someone without being insulting. Let the tone speak for itself. If you enjoy being treated like this then by all means pursue this company for your next auto loan. My advice is to go the other direction. The cars they sell will be over priced and unreliable and the customer service to boot is abysmal as proven by their responses. As I type this now I can only imagine that there is someone waiting with baited breath to insult me in some way. I have no beef with this company, but really do feel that this company is operating with little regard for their customers. With the creation of the Consumer Protection Bureau one can only hope that tighter regulations are put in place as to the quality of the products that are able to receive loans. This would not only increase the reliability of Right way and Gateways products, but also ensure an equally positive experience for both the customer and this business.

You are among the users that I was referring to. You indicate that you are a consumer yet a simple search finds that you (coast-USA) and quite a few others have made comments to numerous posts involving quite a multitude of companies and organizations. You indicate that you are commenting as a consumer on the topic which I find hard to believe based on the sheer volume of unrelated companies in various locations throughout the company that you have commented on. So I doubt that you are a consumer of gateway financial and find no need to respond to your question. If you are a consumer or gateway yourself I would be happy to respond. I have no idea what interest you and a few other users on this site have in all of these people's complaints but it has completely removed the validity of this site and the administrators need to do something in order to maintain the integrity of what should be going on here. Based on the comments that I was reading that prompted me to make my first post I honestly assumed that you were representatives from gateway but I was wrong and no I can only assume that you are somehow connected to flynrider- Phoenix. I find that it would be to much of a conveinience that you to would comsistently comment on a high percentage of the same topics especially given the sheer volum of topics created per day. So this has been a long explanation just to get to the point that I see no reason for me to respond to your request.

Caspian724 backed down when I challenged his/her claim. His/her excuse is total bunk.
I challenged Brian's claim that he was ripped off on the price of the car but he has refused to respond. He blames the finance company for his inability to honor the agreement.
Of course let's not forget Gordon. He wrote that he was not given the price of the car he purchased. (That's an admission that he didn't attempt to negotiate the price of the vehicle). Then he stated it was $12000. His claim that the vehicle has problems is not relevant to the finance agreement.
There are no valid complaints on this thread that support any claim that Gateway Financial cheated or ripped off anyone. The complaints appear to be from people with poor credit whom are suffering from buyer's remorse.

I am not backing down. I am simply realizing that you are an individual with a motive that at this time I am not sure of but it definitely isnt to honestly comment on companies that you have experience in. You have avoided the point of everything that I have said in my post. You my friend honestly need a life because any point you make is a moot point because you have no experience with the company you are talking about. So don't not think that I have backed down in anyway you are defending a company that has an F rating by the Better Business Bureau, an organization that any company that cares about its reputation ensures that they are reflected in a positive light.

I am also a customer of Gateway Financial/Right Way Auto, and kind of understand both sides. On one hand, they do over-charge for their cars (in my experience it's been about $3k over blue book)... this is the price we pay for having to utilize sub-prime lenders in rinky-dink dealerships. Our bad credit essentially equals more risk for them and thus more compensation in the end. It sucks, but hey, it's what we have to do if our credit takes a shot from a period of being down and out in this horrible economy. As for the harrassing phone calls and insults? I have never experienced that with Gateway. I've had 2 different cars financed by them over a 3 year period, and have never once received anything other than a "friendly remider" on a Monday morning on the rare occasion that I have missed my Saturday payment. Just last month (I've had the car for a year), my timing chain broke and after a $1,461 repair for the chain and other misc. belts etc, I called Gateway because I could not afford my bi-weekly payment, and they were completely understanding and sympathetic, and the only request from them was that when I rolled that payment into the next, they wanted me to pay on Friday instead of my normal scheduled Saturday payment so they could clear out their books before the weekend. No harm, no foul. Maybe you're bad experience came from the company not having had enough consistent payments for them to trust you, because I myself have had maybe 2 or 3 "day late" payments the past 3 years and have never had a problem with re-directing partial or full payments to the next due date as long as you call them.
