You might have been better off to pull over & call police. But then 'prior damage' might be argued, so- Next time, simply pull over as far as you can & let the dolt pass. Chasing him down could have gotten you charged with "engaging in a speed contest".
I had a deer run into a previous car c1979 in CT, rather than my running into the deer, and when I drove to the insurance adjuster's office, walked in, and told him my tale of woe, I could tell he was quite skeptical. Until he saw that the SIDE of the front fender was caved in.
I met someone who was hotrodding his new Ford SUV around in 4WD one very bad snowy night in NY. He blew a stop sign, raced around a right turn, lost control, & slid sideways downhill into the front of my F150. Then he moved his vehicle to obscure the site, and he was friends with the local police who responded. Darned weasel tried to blame it on me the next day, but I had collected the name, address, & phone number of the woman driving behind me.
