Rented a car from Dollar on 4/2/11 to 4/8/11 at Orlando Intl. Airport. Clerk at the desk asked if I wanted insurance to which I declined. He then rushed me through the POS screens telling me to keep hitting next until the signature appeared. I trusted him, which was a mistake. I later found a $179.18 charge on my credit card. I contacted dollar and was rudely told that I signed for it so I'm responsible. That may be true, but this appears to be a scam they run on countless tourists. Everyone knows how rushed it is at the airport, and how they want to push you out to get to the next customer. While I may not get my money back, I feel it is my duty to have this practice looked into.
This is a scam that must bring in a lot of money for Dollar, as not too many people have the time to check the transaction while at the counter. My daughter also rented a car from Dollar at the same time, she too declined the extra insurance, was rushed through like I was, and ultimately was also charged $179.18. Multiply this by who knows how many unsuspecting tourists Dollar is scamming, they must be realizing heavy profits. I filed a complaint with the Florida Attorney General, and see on their web site they already have an investigation on Dollar for other unscrupulous charges. I urge everyone who's been ripped off by Dollar to file a complaint. They're nothing but thieves.

I must have missed the part where the clerk from Dollar had a gun to your head. What, no gun, then you allowed him to rush you. Always read what you're signing. Everytime I rent a car, I check the rental contract thoroughly. I don't care how annoyed or irritated the clerk gets when he tries to rush me. I also make sure they document all pre-existing damage to the vehicle. As for them being thieves, you and your daughter are the ones that allowed it to happen.

I also just recently had a negative experience with Dollar. I was originally charged $305 for insurance and surcharges (after already pre-paying $270 for the week), and then found out I was being charged an extra $100 after I had already dropped the car off because they said I did not drop off the car in the right location (although I have it in writing) When I spoke to Dollar Rental, I just said "Fort Lauderdale" as I had picked up the car at Tampa Airport, so it would stand to reason I would drop it off at Fort Lauderdale Airport. On top of all this, my bank statement has two charges (the original $305 and $402.47). They have both charges on my account and will not credit my account and take off the second charge until they "investigate" it. I think I will look up Florida Attorney General's office, also. I feel like I have been mugged.

but I don't let clerks and salesmen push me around either. I do everything I can to watch out for my best interests. That includes paying attention to the details in contracts and agreements that I sign. I'm not saying what Dollar RAC did was right, but some of the fault lies with you too. You need to learn to stand up for yourself.
