My wife and I rented a car from Enterprise on december 14th while my wife car was being repaired from an auto accident that was at fault by another person. The person insurance company progressive suggested Enterprise for a rental car and that they would cover all charges for the rental. After we got the car from enterprise they claimed all they had was a small mazda protege dx no power windows and smelled of cigarettes and had tape with the gear shift letters on it such as Park Drive Reverse etc, a piece of tape can you believe that. And this car was suppose to be equivelent to my wife's 2002 fully loaded honda accord.

We were upset and told them to get us another car and they keep saying they were out at all locations to check back the next day which i did and they told me to come get a car by six o clock they will have one there. I got off work and drove out to there location and got there right around 5:59 and then they said they can't help me come back tommorow that the keys are all locked up. I was pissed off after I drove in 5:00 traffic for an hour and called when I was almost there to let them know I was almost there. They are all a bunch of idiots over there. I will never rent a car from there again and I will let others know.

To top things off the body shop didn't have the car ready and we had to keep that piece of junk car an extra day. They were not helpful in any way at all. If my wife and I were already pissed off we had to drive around in that car smelling of cigarettes with our two kids they turn around and charged my wifes check card for an extra day plus insurance without telling her after I was in there a few days later to get my garage door opener I left in their crappy car. They had already charged her card for the 3 days of car insurance and then turned around a week later and charged her card again for an additional day which was ridiculous.

The body shop that fixed my wifes car is less than a quarter mile from the enterprise location and the rental car place told us to leave the car there when we picked up my wifes car. The body shop has some sort of dealings with enterpise and when the car was returned they came and picked up the car when they felt like it and charged my wifes card for a whole day for them picking up the car late 2 hours after the car was dropped off. They are rude and do not care about their customers at all.

Dont ever rent from Enterprise Rent a car they will rip you off and dont let you know of the charges until they appear on you account.

a couple of things......

AUTHOR: Marc - Pittsburgh, (U.S.A.)

1st did you try to call the office to complain about the car.......propably not

2nd you should have taken the car back to the Enterprise office you got it from that way you would have known what the charges would be but like so many other customers you want to drop the car where and when you feel like and bitch about later as far as I'm concerned Enterprise dose not need customers like you and by the way I'm sure Iif you would have paid a couple more dollars a day you would have got a nicer car.... so in otherwords CHEAPSKATE

Reason why her card was charged

AUTHOR: Debbie - Chandler (U.S.A.)

I work for Enterprise and I sympathize with your situation. I am sorry the car was smokey- all the cars are supposed to be non somoking but it happens all the time. I also work at a branch that rarely has extra cars, so I am guessing they were doing what they could to find another car but when there is a customre in the lobby waiting for a car and one returns, it is hard to say "I have to hold this one so you need to wait." It is a hard situation for everyone when the bransh runs short or out of cars. We get it so bad that we pick people up at dealerships in our own cars... About the car though- many time the other person's insurance only pays for a smaller car so they were probably right in giving you the protege. That actually sounds tpical for an accident with an 02 accord. That is something that the insurance company determines- not Enterprise. It should not have been so smokey though. As far as the extra day, insurance rentals are based on a calender day billing- meaning every day is a day. If you pick up a car Mon at 6:00PM and return it Tues at 8:00AM, it is a two day rental. This is also something the insurance companies have worked out with rental car companies. In the long run- it keeps their costs down as most of the time, people pick up a car in the AM and return it in the PM when there car is done. It also allows them to keep their discounted rates low. This is why she was charged for a full day- not because the car was "late." If in fact though the car was not done at the shop, the insurance company should have picked up that extra day. Enterprise can only bill them what they are authorized so it was the Insurance company who would not pay that last day. They should have told you though and if you call the Manager, they are usually willing to refund your card. If you really want the money back, ask who the area manager is. He will likely refund it, not because they should not have charged it, but because you had a crappy car that you tried to switch and then were charged without notice. Good Luck!!

The Enterprise places I've rented from have always charged me for one day........

AUTHOR: Donna - Walker (U.S.A.)

using the 24 hour period as the basis for the definition of what one day is. So if I picked a car up at 11:00am and brought it back at 11:00am the next day, that's one day. The 3 day weekend specials were always Friday at 11:00am until Monday at 11:00am which would be 4 days by your definition. We've rented over 20 times and it was always like that. Has Enterprise changed as much as everyone makes it sound? I have never been pressured to by the insurance. I was askedm of course, but a simple no sufficed. I also rented a car from them one morning about 7:00am when my car was in the shop and the air conditioning quit working and my car was ready before noon and they credited the entire rental back to me because the a/c was broken. (In Louisiana in the summer, a/c is mandatory...lol). Like I said in another post, the only complaint I had with them was when they started doing credit checks when debit cards were used. My husband had a bankruptcy in 2001 so the credit score wouldn't have allowed him to rent even after being such a good customer for so many rentals. And for those of you that think because someone has a poor credit score that they're dishonest scum, I hope a life altering event never happens to you that causes your finances to go into ruin. Or maybe you do need to see that bad things happen to good people and that doesn't make the good people into bad people. Anyway, within two years, we had our credit back on track after getting my father in law to co-sign on a car and after making ontime payments for over a year and joining a credit union, it was much easier than I thought to not only get credit, but to get it at a decent rate. Other than that one issue, the 3 Enterprise branches we've used has never surprised us with any charges and has always been upfront about the amount they would debit. We even kept a car for a week and didn't get debited any extra charges until we went in and we paid the extra amount we owed at that time. Also, we've used Enterprise to go out of state several times and they knew we were going out of state. My daughter in law in Georgia even came to Louisiana to visit and rented a car with Enterprise and they knew she was going out of state. I don't understand why some are told they can't do that. From the stories I've read, it sounds like each branch can make their own policies. My husband even rented a car from them when our truck was totaled and the other person's insurance company (State Farm) paid 100% for the rental and he was given a brand new Ford Taurus and the totaled truck was a 1993 Chevy S10 pickup that only had a book value of $800 (good little work truck though!). He had the car for over two weeks and we didn't have to provide any credit card or debit card info. The only problem he had was he bought another truck from a guy he works with and had two days left to go before he needed to return the car and the car sat for two days at his place of employment without being started. When he got in it to return it, it wouldn't start. This was a brand new car with less than 500 miles on it. Enterprise told him to leave the keys at the guard shack at my husband's work and the guard told him Enterprise was there within 30 minutes to tow the car away. Also, as for renting at the branch closest to your address on your driver's license - not true when I am. We've rented at the one closest as well as two that were cloest to my husband's place of employment and once it was because they actually had the vehicle was wanted. As for the idea that they're renting to us when another person and/or their insurance company is responsible - then I wouldn't rent from them. State Farm got billed directly when my husband had to rent a car because someone rear-ended him and if an insurance company doesn't do it that way, then I wouldn't be renting a car because if my car is damaged and it's another person's fault and that person and their insurance company is responsible, then that person and'or their insurance company is going to be responsible for my transportation in it's entirety, not me. So I really do believe it must be the individual branches you're dealing with that makes the difference. I would never deal with the branches I've read about here and I'd make it a point to make sure as many people heard about the crap they dish out!
